Got to be a rag top for me I'm afraid Adam - don't think there is a classic with more class than this one. Meeting the guy Saturday, hopefully drive from cold and see how the 2nd gear synchros are. If an easy gearchange and no smoke on start up, it's a car that has had the appropriate rebuild on box and engine.

There's a woman in the picture??

Problem is always money, could have grabbed a £4-5k car now but a £12k+ car is always going to take a while to save up for. Pay day is 3rd of June... and I'm in Spa for that... Maybe he's not in a hurry and will wait. But I'd like it serviced and MOT'd before collection. Tax... oh yeah, it's free :)

Derbyshire Adam!! My Aston is at Derby Motor Services anyway so I had to be there on Saturday, it's fate... and I like fate!

Without the full history of rebuilds and at 3 times the original budget, it is going to have to have to drive like an absolute dream. He assures me it does, but then he woud say that wouldn't he.

Currently Sarah wont even entertain the thought of Kamm tailed S2 cars! I would prefer the power and torque f the 2l, but the 1750 is an 1800cc and the difference is about 7bhp. So the 1750 is a lot revvier and rather nice by all accounts!

i hope it is to your standard Lewis, it certainly looks special in the pics.

What 996 you thinking of getting?? take it that it will be a cabriolet, if so, 996 C4S is the one to buy.

Looking for a cheap cabrio, so will end up with a 3.4, 3.6 cars are a good £5-6k more - not blowing the budget on a car I don't really care about! The only thing we really want is a manual box! If an S or a C4, or a C4S comes into play we could go for it but in all likelihood it'll be a boggo C2 Carrera. I know it's the most souless asd least well regarded of all 911s, but it's that bit more modern and reliable that the 964 but still with 300bhp and Porsche handling. Like 'em or loathe 'em, they're good cars to drive!

They are Lewis....and no matter what the die hards tell you a good 966 is a fantastic car especially the C4S but a C2 is just as much fun.......The C4S I drove wasn't souless and was very capable.

you not fancy a 993?? Although 993 rag tops seem to be rare and worth a few quid as they are considered a classic.

Indeed Adam, but purely as a practical proposition, the roof doesn't fold flush into the bodywork! Add extra years and extra miles, a lot less standard kit plus a lot of extra cost and it doesn't add up. The 993 for me is the ultimate 911 version but there is no lift-out targa roof version and no flush-fit cabriolet. So I'll never own one as I have no need for a coupe :(

996 is not going to be a car to cherish, it's a car to enjoy driving fast as a foil to the others and will stil bring a smile with the right exhaust! Would I rather have a 4200 Spider - of course, but she won't drive it! She's happy in a 911 and for £15k we're in a modern 300bhp car with all the toys, a bit of class, a heck of a heritage and no roof. And heated seats ;)

As the saying goes, it's a 'lot of car for the money'.

993 convertable was not a nice design as you say Lewis ..That hoos design made it look like a pram when down....Coupe is far more elegant....

Lewis. I like that...I to like blue and tan but strangely it is a very hard colour to shift .....The another thing is for a few k moreyou can get a face lift car but only coupe form...
