On some models it was the actual metal used that is the issue and no matter where it was used the nasties will be lurking..!!

Well yes, and no. The metal's condition can be very much affected by the climate. Australian Spider's for example as well as South African Giuliettas. Our first (new) Giulietta started to rust within 6 months (and that was Ziebarted). The SA ones just didn't. Similarly Mrs Catman's Sprint *body* was originally from Switzerland (no salt) and was fine. Until it came over here, whereupon the tin work started pretty much immediately.

Couple of pics of the 147 Ducati Corse. Very pleased with it, handles brilliantly and goes really well. My only criticism is that the paint is rubbish and seems to chip really easily. There's quite a bit of gravel rash in various places and the bottoms of the front wings are a bit chipped due to being blasted with stones coming off the tyres. I'll fit some front mudflaps to give them a bit of protection and to prevent stones being thrown against the sides of the car. I've found a product called Chipex which looks like a good way to address the gravel rash.

This is the car that was on Pistonheads a while back, the photos in the advert weren't very good and the car has quite a history which may have put others off. It had a brand new engine last year as the previous owner overfilled it with oil and it overheated, melting pistons/injectors and damaging the crankshaft. The turbo was also damaged so it had a brand new turbo and silicone hoses plus cambelt and clutch. Its just had new wishbones, windscreen and front tyres and a new MOT. Cosmetically its pretty good, wheels have a small amount of curbing and there are a few stone chips and a bit of gravel rash but I'll slowly address all of that. Overall its in nice condition and with all that work done it shouldn't need anything major doing for some time. I spoke to Lawrence at Autolusso as he had carried out all the work and he gave it a good review so I took the plunge, got it for a very good price, considerably cheaper than all the others that were for sale at the time and lower mileage too.

You're right it does ride a little high and I'd love to lower it a little but it'll have to wait. It will need some research as the ride is already very hard and I don't want it to be any stiffer, I've had Eibach progressive springs on cars before and they have been very good so maybe worth some investigation.

The Ducati Corse is a limited edition although I'm not sure how many were sold in the UK, opinion seems to vary between 240 and 500. I suppose its kind of a diesel GTA. It has the 170bhp version of the 1.9JTD with a sport button which sharpens throttle response, it has a Q2, special interior with red stitching and Ducati logos embroidered into the head restraints, auto dim rear view mirror, special wheels, badges, red calipers, rear spoiler etc. It doesn't have the Bose stereo for some reason though. Its a really nice looking car and surprisingly quick.

Some diesels are stonkingly good cars nowadays, they are perfecting the diesel engine to become a good performer..!!
