They already did - in the shape of the Gran Sport!

Sorry- forgot to use the word modern
There is no doubt that for its time it was spectacular - and is still one of the best classic sports cars to own. Maserati should have bought out the true replacement sooner!

Been reading this thread and time to chip in.
I too wonder what to do next. I am not in the big money league of Ferrari (vulgar) or McLaren etc and I love my QPV so I guess it is a keeper. The only ones I am interested in at the mo is a BMW i8 but they are German and therefore a no no or a Tesla when they fall in price. My workhorse Renault is on its last legs so decisions will need to be made. What is a Revoke?

It's remarkable you can get i8s for well sub 70 now with 7,000 or so miles on the clock.
That's a nice 50,000 pound depreciation for a handful of trips to Scotland and back. Probably cheaper to charter a jet

That's impressive depreciation! Mind you, I wouldn't want one. A 599 would be tremendous but I'd live in fear of it biting me in the wallet, never mind those famously extravagant V12 running costs. Mind you, at least with the F cars you get access to a great indie service network.

The 599 is tempting me a bit at the moment- but deep down I know it's not a good idea... at all! The reviewes online do like fantastic though- I love the Chris Harris one.
Either keeping the GTs or a California with 2 year warranty or remains of a 7 year service pack with less than 10,000 miles is looking more sensible at present.

Man-maths probably works quite well on an F with a long warranty and service pack. The reviews of the older Cali, though, were not great. The T looks fantastic and the reviews are good, but I wonder if it's important to be a good bit older than I am and completely retired before getting one. And even then, you once again come back round to it costing 3-4x what I could get for mine. And I'm guessing it's not 3-4x as amazing.

I wanted to get one at least 25 years before I retire! I prefer the look of the pre- T (mainly the exhausts) and not sure the T is worth 50k more. Man maths definitely work with the service pack and warranty- as we all know some masers can cost 5 figures without breaking a sweat...

I agree on the most important point- they won't be 2-3 times as amazing as a GTs. If anyone can advise on a 10-15k conversion to a convertible - with the worlds biggest tin opener I will stay with the GTs.

Drove a Cali non turbo a few years ago at push start maranello.... sounds brilliant, goes well, back seats tiny and no good for adults...10 yr old son fine, wife looked like she'd been out in a hurricane when we got back!!

So was that a positive or negative review!
My mates can walk (or go in the passenger seat) if I get a Cali but I would like to take my kids in the back. Agreed my wife is unlikely to come out in it with the top down due to hair . It's good to hear it sounds good... I just need to find out if an x pipe would void the warranty

Funnily enough saw an i8 in Perthshire late afternoon. Did you buy one and pop up?

No- I was considering one on NHS lease - ludicrously good deal according to main dealers- but the 1.5l engine and sound put me off. One of my best friends has one - in addition to a 4200 and seems to really rate it. I think it's great value starting with a 6.
Not sure what others think

Never been in one. But whilst I think they should appeal to me ... they don't.

Is it actually good at anything? Is it good at being an electric car? Is it good at being a high performance sports car??

I really don't know enough about it.

Interestingly I have been trawling the market for a 599.

Are they that scary in terms of maintenance? The price is slowly going up. So if I don't make a move soon I never will.

I have been looking and reading.
I think maintenance does look pretty steep, but fundamentally what does it do better than a GTs / strad. It's a big car, 2 seats (not 4), not convertible, a bit quicker 0-60. Sounds similar. 50-70k more.
You would buy it for the badge and the extra HP to play top trumps with.
Not sure they will appreciate that much- unless it's kept in a garage. And if I had one- boy would I want to drive it!

I would pay the extra and get a 458 if you want the badge and a great sports car, or a California / 430 spider if you wanted a convertible. I would love a 599 as part of a collection if I won the lottery but even with man maths couldn't condone it at the moment. Even though my calculator is clearly malfunctioning as now it's in my comfortable purchase range.
