Hi,

What is involved with replacing the throttle potentiometer in a 4200? Is this simple DIY?

Thanks!

It’s a separate throttle body between the air filter and inlet manifold. Change the whole throttle body.

Do you have a problem with it? I thought the throttle pot on the 4200 is trouble free. Now you've got me worried...

Isn’t this what they did on wheeler dealers. Was get detailed when they went into it to be fair

Hi, I think I may have mis-described the part.
I believe the issue is in the canister that is attached to the accelerator - the drive by wire sensor. Indy was getting codes releated to it, cleared them, but they have no come back with throttle issues / almost like limp mode, but no lights on dash. I should have called it accelerator pedal potentiometer and not throttle potentiometer (found some other forum psost on the web calling it the latter).
I think this is part number 183656.
(Edit - the pedal pot as conaero mentioned above).

You're absolutely correct.
The throttle pedal assembly is the potentiometer and rarely give a problem on the 4200.
Try disconnecting the plug first and a battery reset and see how she goes after a re learn.
On the air intake is the MAF.

Has anyone done a how to" for the pedal pot ..?
I've got one I wanna throw on whilst the seats are out. A recent thread just posted (toole26?) complained about his GS- Matt said they change loads at SI..........?
Im sure its probably an easy fit but if there's anything anything I might need to know before I get inverted&inserted in the footwell...now's the time to ask!!

Measured the pedal pot once.
It looks exactly the same as the 3200 one, but has a different output system.
Also two potentiometers inside, but the second one has 2x the output voltage of the first one.
So its safety regime is different to that of the 3200.
You could check both outputs at certain pedal positions and see if there are severe deviations to the out2 = 2 x out1
If so, it will be worn indeed.

You can do a diagnostic via your OBD port on the potmeter signal into the motronic ECU,
Most tester will allow you to measure the two input voltages, as pointed out above it works differently from a 3200GT (voltage A descending voltage B acceding)

It's rather are on a 42GT to have this issue though.

AS motorsport is right, i was wrong; one wire starts at ca 4 volts going down when you press the pedal, the other starts low and goes up.

That's a 3200 as well...looking at that gear knob !
If it is rare on a 4200, it'd be rare on a GS too I imagine...
Have to wonder, with the prevalence for not answering the question in inimitable SM style, why the thread here states my previous assertion...' we do loads"..?
Have to watch thread drift with a profusion of confusion about 3200 & 4200 pots too ( I refer the honorable gentlemen to the thread title !!
The point of testing one before fitting it is well made however...!

Correct that's a 32GT but the screen on the MD is the same you want to have check that specific data set
