Hi,

Does anyone know if the bulbs can be upgraded to more powerful ones? IF so can you recommend a place/shop. I am driving around at night with the front fog lights on too as the headlight beams on their own are weak.

Thanks

Are your headlamp lenses cloudy and / or the bulbs old? Upgrades may well be an option but filament bulbs get dimmer with age as the inside of the glass gets covered with metal. Also the covers haze over with UV damage. So new bulbs and / or a polish might be a consideration.

Osram Nightbreakers were well regarded

Thanks, I cleared the headlamps with a headlight restoration kit as they were cloudy. I did not think that the bulbs may just be old!

I'm looking into this and am something of a nerd when it comes to headlights :D

If you're looking for maximum output then get a set of Osram Nightbreaker Lasers or Philips Xtreme Vision - they produce the most usable light and are a big upgrade over the standard bulbs.

If you want something a bit more modern then look at Osram Cool Blue bulbs or Philips WhiteVision which burn at a higher colour temperature (around 5000k).

Higher colour temperature means less usable light output though, so don't fall into the common trap of thinking higher kelvin rating (k) equals more light because the opposite is nearly always true.

I'm looking at getting the actual projector lenses changed on my GT. From factory they have cloudy lenses and if you change them to a clear lens the light output is noticeably increased and combined with a whiter bulb produce a lovely spread of light with some nice colour flicker.

I actually think the projectors on the GT are pretty good from factory, but you can swap them out for something from Morimoto for even better visibility.

The below example is a car with only a clear lens swap and Osram CBI bulbs:

You know your stuff! I am more of a lazy bugger and called Autofficina to book me in next weekend to change the bulbs along with some other minor work. When they send me over the quotation I will see what bulbs they are offering and suggest Osram Nightbreaker Lasers or Philips Xtreme Vision. Are these 'yellow light' or 'white light' output? I don't want to change the look to be too modern for this car as it is a beauty as it is.

The only trouble with that strategy is you will probably find that they want to fit the official Maserati part, which will be a birthday cake candle with a mirror stapled to it at £695 each.

Also, according to the Osram website, the only bulbs they have to fit Maserati are for 1998-2002 3200s.

Yes they are Xenon - the issue is to access them you need to remove the wheel arch!

Just loosen and drop. I didn't remove mine when I replaced the sidelights to brighter versions. Wheel off is a pain in the butt though.
