I've been dreaming of a GT since they were launched. Currently have a 911 993 (anyone fancy going the other way let me know!) which the better 1/2 thinks is claustrophobic.
Now, recently I've noticed my dream car values are dropping to a level where I can start realistically thinking about one and was recommended to this forum by a guy on the PH forum (am i allowed to enter this?)
Anyway have been reading posts for a week or so, entertained and amused and taking notes from the learned contributors and the helpful and friendly way things are done (sook).
I look forward to picking brains over the coming months till I find my car. This incidentally will be months as I figured out this morning how much vat I have to pay this 1/4 (I'm a smalltime hotelier & semi-seasonal) Hey-ho

Good time to move a 993 as prices are high for good cars, prices for most masers low in comparison.......we have had several 993's , great cars but Maseratis have a certain extra something......just but a good one, loads of knowledge and advice on here. Happy hunting,

My advice is that you talk to Dicky Grace to source you a car when you are ready.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, 993's are stunning cars, the last well-built 911. Give me a call if you want to discuss, thanks, Dicky.

seems a logical progression from a 993 :) Dicky Grace certainly is the master hunter gatherer of good cars.

Take your time, don't make any half hearted decisions and commit to a car you have a good feeling about.

Welome Orcadian, coming from a 993 you will only really need to consider the GTS MC shift, unless you are a self confessed pootler, where the 4.7 Auto might suit you better. The 4.2 GT is a lovely car but a very sedate drive, fine if thats what your after, but the GTS is a hardcore version.

£50k should pick you up a nice example with some sort of warranty, anything less and they will probably have a lot of bills queing up. Its better to pay a bit more up front than have to put one right.

What's wrong with the 4.2 Matt, a "SEDATE DRIVE", you should come with me for a quick spin and that should change your mind, but mine is only a 4200 though...hehehe...???

Thanks guys, lots to reply to & I'm no typist.
Am I a pootler or not?......can I afford the extra £15k?
Took me two years with my 911 to have the confidence to throw it into corners, do I need the 4.7.... would I regret not going for it? could i wait a bit longer to get it. I live in Orkney so test drives are difficult..... my bank asset finance people might have a say too. Week off in January, might have to try and get a spin in one. Was south last week and went past the Graypaul maserati in edinburgh, even their cars in the showroom were locked and no-one seemed interested so I left again

I will try to upload a photo of my 911 but it might take me some time
Its a 97 manual, targa, ocean blue/blue leather, 75k miles.
When i first went looking for a porsche i fancied this one in Devon so I got the owner to take for an independant inspection, the car wasn't quite up to it but the indie was and I kept in touch, asking for advice. Eventually i bought one from one of his regulars, on his recommendation for its mechanical excellence -hes serviced it for 10 years. His names Martin Reed of Barnstaple, services porsches and a few ferraris, don't know if he'll service a masser. Even if he does and I trust him, do you venture from dealers for the servicing?

Hi Orcadian, theres a strong indie sector for servicing Maserati.....theres only one in Scotland...we always recommend an indie inspection for any Maserati.......keep us informed as to how the search goes,

Orcadian,
Your 993 did the 0-60 in around 4 secs, the 4.2 is a bit slower by just over half a second, the 4.7 is slightly faster by a fraction of a second over the 4.2.
Hope that helps..??
Cheers

Robert, my 993, a plain 3.6, does 0-60 in 5.4 which i thought was much the same as the 4.2 gt and also pretty lazy below 3500 revs. From memory the 4.7 takes 4.7 secs.
I sit to be corrected and enlightened -for my much anticipated big move.

There is a high chance that you will be fine with either engine GranTurismo. The main issue is that the car is much bigger, specifically it's width, compared with a 993.

I'm a tad north of the Forth but still a long, long way from you. Drop me a PM if you are ever coming south and we can meet up.
