What’s the ridiculous rear wheel intake?

Appropriately-sized fuel filler?...

Rad in the boot I guess.

Bizarrely quite cool

There’s not many cars I regret not buying (unless you count their rise in value) but an e32 750il Highline was one. It was £1700 and I thought it’d be too uneconomic so bought an e34 instead. But that 750 was such a lovely thing, V12, brown metallic, full brown Nappa leather, including dash, headlining, door cards, even the fridge box in the rear, 4 seater with picnic tables. It was a monumental thing. Probably ended up as snotter limo around Heathrow before being scrapped

Wow what a fascinating story and imagine being able to tell that story just brilliant and far more interesting than any EV ever will be.

One of the amusing side stories from this car is that Mercedes-Benz caught wind of this car happening – which was, after all, an engineer's plaything to keep minds active, and a long way from production. Only the Three-Pointed Star missed the second part of that sentence.
Mercedes-Benz built its own equivalent – that much is known and admitted. But one engineer told me that such was the corporate gentleman chap swinging in the German cars that a repeat of BMW taking Mercedes-Benz by surprise with a V12 simply could not happen again, so around 40 pre-production cars were built at enormous cost before they realised what the project was actually for. Sadly I couldn't get the engineer to go on record, so sadly it could be a drunk engineer or fact, who knows...

There are lots of great little stories like this, particularly with Mercedes-Benz of the 80s and early 90s. The story of the W140 is almost like a Greek tragedy, only with mullets and moustaches.

I was down in London with some mates in our various classics back in 2014, I was following these two gems...
