A large chunk of America has no idea about life outside their own state, let alone their country. Only 40% of the country have passports (although they weren't needed to travel to Canada and Mexico up until 2007)

About 86% or UK citizens hold one

To be fair though, the USA is almost so big you can get almost every type of terrain, activity etc. without needing to leave the country. Well everything accept the culture. If the UK was the same size, would we need to leave it as often? I bet there’s a lot of people in the UK that have never gone further then Europe for instance.

Be interesting to know how many people have never left their home state.

Oh you're absolutey correct. Texas alone is 5 times larger than the UK. And the US is certainly not a homogenous society. Working in Boston (for example) is totally different from working in San Francisco or Texas. There are some constants (the very odd attitude to alcohol springs to mind) much much else can be very different.

Certainly can imagine there are brits that have never been out of Europe indeed. But I think that Europe is even less homogenous than the US (not that I've experience *all* of either, but crossing the channel is immediately totally different)

Apparently 1 in 6, 55 *million* people. I suspect most of those are more to the west than the east, though. It would be quite hard not to leave, as an example, Maryland. Not impossible, mind ;)

Before Brexit under 60% of naturalised Irish adults had a passport much lower than the UK but that changed with Brexit as the number of UK citizens applying for an Irish passport based on family history increased dramatically.

That is correct. But you are missing the point that lots of Americans only visit 2 or 3 states in their lifetime. I had friends lived in Ohio and holidays in South Carolina. Same every year.
