Park off when driving and EPB

I believe the function of the park off button is to stop the automatic function of the epb. It stays where you put it, either on or off regardless of whether you are in gear and pulling away.

You may be right, Zep, but cautiously I shall disagree. Apart from anything else, under what circumstances would you want it to stay on where it otherwise wouldn't?

All I can read on that is that the automatic activation function can be deactivated/activated.

I read that as the Park off stops the EPB from automatically engaging. Not disengaging.....

(I know disagreeing with you nearly always ends up with me learning something!)

Aye catman my post earlier should have said disengage, typing on phone so it missed the ‘dis’ off

I’m short with EPB on when I flick into 1st the EPB disengages straight away

I just checked. With park off on, you can switch the epb on and off and it doesn’t disengage or engage when you try to move / stop. When it isn’t pressed it does what Ryandoc says, it engages when you turn the key off and it disengages when you put it in gear.

Well, all I know is that I have not used my car since Le Mans so I will be getting a PARK OFF error tomorrow. Then with some use it stops doing it.

Mine is probably dirty or contaminated actuator pots that after a bit of use wipe themselves clean. I will be replacing them over the winter and probably fitting a new seal in the actuator. Dunno why a fresh battery stopped it happening for 18 months only to return recently???

Park Off basically makes the EPB a manual function...so as I found out the first time it did it (sat in the middle of a busy junction!), with park off activated you need to manually control the EPB via the switch.

I didn’t realise this and was probably toasting my clutch as the EPB was on even though park off was lit on the dash...

This is for the F1 box

You can’t have been driving with the EPB on surely ? The car wouldn’t have moved ??!!

So that’s what 3 of us with the same fault now then?

I find It’s quite strange I took the car out the garage for the first time for a week and it was just ticking over while I parked another and I heard the alarm bleep and the lights come on. I turned off the ignition restarted drove the car for half an hour no problems I’m still wondering to change the battery.

By all means give it a try Vince, but a new battery hasn’t made a difference for me...

Are you in a 4.7 MC with F1 gearbox?

I was stopped at the lights, parking brake on but park off warning light had just illuminated as I came to a stop...
Normally, as you select 1st and pull away the brake knocks off but it didn’t so I tried to pull away with the parking brake on, (not realising at the time), and ended up coming to a stop in the middle of the junction.

That’s when I realised to try pressing the handbrake switch at which point it deactivated and I was good to go...I wasn’t as calm in the middle of a busy junction!

Kind of how it caught me out but I realised instantly that the brake was still engaged.

If the rain stays off tomorrow I might get her out for a spin will report back if it’s still happening

Been out all afternoon in the car, lots of driving lots of stoping and starting and you guessed it, not a single hint of it.

Will report back to this thread on future drives.
