My god. Think they let the paint dry before moving the masking.

Someone needs their **** kicking for letting that out the door!

That's the annoying thing. No one checked before I made my 150 mile round trip to pick it up! To be fair once I pointed it out they were full of apologies

Those alloys are shocking. I didn't go back to JCT for my alloy refurb. Found a local place and they did a great job.

They use a place in York apparently though not sure who. I was told they do all the Ferraris Astons and porshes. The service girl said she'd never seen such a poor job

That's odd because that sounds like the place I used. I went to it specifically because they did the Ferraris and Astons. There was an Aston outside when I dropped my car off.

Well the garage said they'd never had issues and been using them for years, so maybe just a blip. However what shocks me is that someone at the alloy wheel place mustve thought they were ok, and then no one at JCT noticed they weren't either!

My thoughts exactly, why didn't JCT come clean and say that they didn't think the alloys were up to standard or were they hoping that you wouldn't complain. If the reception girl noticed then why didn't anyone else? Very poor attitude.

You should ask to see the manager and get a discount for the poor service.

So.... Back to paddle shifters (well indicator stalks really).
I don't have paddles on my QPV - didn't think I would use them much and thought Mrs MarkMas would hate them. But now, I'm thinking maybe about retrofitting....
Meanwhile, the indicator stalks are ridiculously far away (presumably to make room for the non-existent paddles) which is only really a problem for high beams - what I really need is a left foot switch for high beams - has anyone fitted one of those?

Just bear in mind on the 4.2 GT and QPV, that the paddles only work to a point as kickdown, unlike with the 4.7, is still activated even in manual mode.

Not sure I understand "to a point as kickdown"?

Can you elaborate please Bob?

Sure. As an example, in manual mode it you floor it in, say, fourth at 50mph on the 4.7 it will stay in fourth and pull all the way to the rev limiter when it will change up whereas on the 4.2 it will kickdown to second and run that all the way round to the limiter to take third etc.

With the 4.7 I drive it in manual mode a lot out of town and like the fact I can have full throttle in the gear I choose not the lowest gear possible which is what the 4.2 would choose if you pin the throttle.

To develop if further for Ghibli/QP (and I presume Levante) owners, these cars have the same problem but only in 7th and 8th where it kicks down to 6th if you go for more than half throttle in manual mode. I don't like that either and it's a software choice Maserati have made since my Disco has the same 8 speed box and with the (standard) paddles (god, Maserati spec is tight) it will stay in 8th when I floor it on the motorway in manual mode. This makes for far smoother progress when you accelerate after someone moves out of the way.

BigBob, you have described exactly what I experienced. I wanted to add paddles to my 4.2 QP but couldn't see the need given how the car behaved already

I have auto-high beams. They only occasionally fail to notice people coming the other way and blind them ;)

understood, so the paddle even though allowing selection of the gear you want if you floor it hard in say 4th it will still select a lower gear if it deems it needs it etc.. makes sense as it is an auto box.

One other thing to note is it HAS to be in SPORT mode if you want to keep the revs on the limiter and/or change up yourself. If you pin it out of SPORT mode it will change gear for you up at redline or just below.

I love the fact that in the MC Shift if you have been driving in manual mode when the engine was last turned off you don't need to press AUTO/MANUAL button again (default is auto) to select manual you can simply pull on the up or downshifter within 2 minutes of pulling away and it automatically reverts back to Manual mode. It's known as Auto Easy-Exit mode.

It will upshift in Sport as well. I found this out at Brunty.

I don't like the fact that the auto won't stay in manual as it were. Even if you want to sit at the lights in Park, obvs.

It is annoying though on the 4.2 auto as the 4.7 auto will let you have any throttle opening in the gear you choose in manual as long as the revs would not be over the red line or below the idle speed whereas with the 4.2 it will only let you push the throttle a certain amount before it decides you no longer want to be in manual even though that is what you have selected. Stupid programming from a company that should know better.

Yes the Auto will but not the DS,CC or MC Shift boxes.

Back to the thread lol.. the shifters are on and at the original (sort of!) price, god knows why they quoted £1380 or whatever it was.
Alloys wise they are sorted however I have an issue, effectively diamond cut alloys have a finite number of repairs (depending on how damaged etc.) and now mine have effectively had 2 repairs when they should have had one (they confirmed that they had machined them again to fix their initial repair). I am not overjoyed by this. Luckily I have an email from Maserati asking me about my experience :)
