Hi All
Just discovered this forum and its made me even keener to get a Maserati. Since having a ride a week or so ago in 360 Modena, I have been determined to acquire some Italian exotica. The 360 is not (yet) for me, for loads of reasons, but after days of research I have decided that a 4200 is just the ticket to get me into the crazy world of owning and running Italian supercars. I had posters of Lambos, Ferraris and Masers on my wall when I was kid. The Bora was my favourite car in 1970's Top Trumps pack. But I'm a sensible guy, so the thought of getting a Maserati is pretty scary. I grew up on motorbikes but that all stopped when the kids were born and now they are about to go to Uni, so maybe it is time to wave good bye to Captain Sensible for a while.
I have a budget of £20k and have convinced myself that it is much better that my savings earn themselves a living rather than sit lazily in the bank. It is basically just moving money around and not actually spending it, isn't it? The games we play to talk ourselves into doing something daft but fun. I reckon a 2004/5 4200 with as low as mileage as possible is the one to go for me - preferably one that has had a new clutch... I live in Bristol which seems to be a barren desert of affordable Masers so it looks like I will be spending Sunday checking out a few examples in the South East. I think if I buy one I will have take to Cardiff, Swindon or Exeter for servicing and fixing which is a bit of pain. Also I will have cross a deep of camber between my driveway and the road that will probably need some kind of bridge. I don't have a garage. So there are few issues, but what the ****.
I'll let you know how my testing goes. Interestingly my wife and 18 year daughter seem keen to spend in Maser dealers and on the motorways in between. My wife has a horse that seems to spend a lot time in the garage/vet and generally off the road, while consuming livery costs and large volumes of special food, clothed in special rugs, with special shoes and special saddles, so maybe she understands something of illogical ownership.
Incidentally, if you are the owner of the GT MC Stradale up the road from me, give us a shout!
