Newbie - questions and any for sale?

Tadders

Hi Guys, Newbie here. I've just sold my TVR Cerbera and am looking to buy a Maserati Gran Turismo 4.7. Wife hated the TVR, too low and not enough creature comforts! I think the GT will be the perfect answer but can you offer advice re gearbox. I live in a London suburb, our street has speed bumps. I won't be driving in and out of London, more to and from suburbia and to the outlaws in Suffolk. The car will actually be kept in a professional storage facility near Gatwick.

There's lots of GT's for sale currently on eBay, Pistonheads, Car and Classic etc. but I'd rather buy direct from a forum member which hopefully works better for me and for the seller so if anyone is considering a sale, I'm looking for a 4.7 in the 40k price range. A convertible would be great but slightly out of reach - are they as good? Just sold my TVR to a forum member from that group.

Thanks everyone, hope to be joining you in Maserati ownership shortly.

Tadders.

Your GS looks lovely, great condition.

I've got 2 kids who need to be in car seats. How do the rear seats on a GS work, they look like they have quite a dip in them, do car seats sit nicely? Boring I know but ISOFIX?

I bought a GS in September last year having initially searched for a GT (not the S).
I am reliably informed GS prices have gone up (only 4 cars for sale on AT yesterday) but a lot of GT cars and their prices are tumbling - maybe the supply high but demand is out of synch with supply? But there are more people looking to buy a GS than there is supply.

But buy a well sorted example - provenance and history are all-important.
As with any prestige car of this type the words cheap and good rarely apply.

That is indeed a real world question isn't it.

Ok, I had the 3200 (same rear seats) when my kids were 2 years and 7 years and never had an issue. Maserati actually do a cushion that fits in the dip for exactly the fitting of a child seat so its more than capable.

The rears of these cars are big, give me a call, I may be with the car in Maidenhead on Saturday if you fancy a go: 07973 363652

There is a forum member selling a 4.7 GT via Nuvola currently. It's an auto (best for London and suburbia) in black, with black interior. I guess that a private deal in the low 40's would be do-able. Currently on the Nuvola site for £44950 I think.

I think you have some great cars to choose from. The GS that Matt has is superb. Similarly the GT with Nuvola. Both ex forum, both well documented.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the right Maserati forum. I'm not biased in anyway but the GS is a good shout.
They are going up in value hopefully dragging up 4200s too

How far wrong could I go with this? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&page=1
Mileage doesn't bother me, I actually prefer some miles to show the car has been used. I won't be putting more than 1.5k per year on the car. Of course I'll check service history, clutch wear / replacement date, number of owners etc. but on the face of things this looks good value. Lots of black/black cars with Sytner selling one for 34k also. Prices appear to be dropping and there's still lots for sale that probably need a price adjustment. Any thoughts?

Hello and welcome from another ex TVR owner (Tamora)

You won't have to worry about the clutch on that car as it's an auto - easy way to tell is 4 tail pipes and a traditional type gear selector.

Good luck with your search

Matt

Tadders, have you settled on a colour combination? Lots of black cars around, which is why I went for my metallic grey 4.7s. Had her 16 months & only covered 2k miles in that time. Total 39k now.
Great car. Highly recommended.

I borrowed these cushion inserts from a forum member and then had them copied by an auto upholsterer. They work great.
