New plan - Spider V6 Q4

Anybody any experience of them?

I do like my GT but find I don't drive it unless the weather is bad, which is a bit of a waste of a lovely car. I also miss having a second roofless GT car since the 911 went, as a backup if you will. Love my Spider and that's not for sale, but thinking the Q4 might fill a few requirements.

It's quick with 260bhp, it's roofless and it's got the Q4 system making it (probably) pretty good through the winter. I'd bin the GT, VR6 and Landy for it.

Anyone driven one or know much about them? I know they aren't the last word on handling or pace, but then nor are the previous versions if we're honest. A shame about the loss of the Arese V6 but nothing wrong with the new one... is there? I'm sure it can be made to sound fine, cats a dn map probably get it up to 280+bhp as well? But they look great and it's a much more modern car than a 911 996 would be that we'd pay a few thousand more for.

Opinions?

I have seen a couple of motoring tests on the Alfa 3.2 Brera Spyder, and they were all woeful I am afraid.

Poor engine, overweight and scuttly.

Sorry to shatter your illusions!

I had a look at 3.4 996 Cabrios, although there'd be more power it looked really old-fashioned by comparison. Interior is terrible on the 911 and absolutely lovely on the Alfa.

So what price do I put on the 'drive'? The 996 would run rings round it but not sure that's enough. A modern, good looking car is a lovely prospect. Warm over winter, plenty of grip, still special enough to be proud to be seen put and about in.

BUT over winter I remember seeing 4200 Spiders for £14k. However, not exactly an easy-going tourer or car for Sarah to nip out and about in is it? :)

Other options that folk can think of of? £10k ish, ragtop, easy to drive, reliable and modern. And a bit of class!!

Get a V6 TT??

I love the spyder and my mrs wants one but me wanting to get her a diesel says it all....
In the new year ill sell hers and go for one as they will be straight swap.....i has a 2.2 courtesy car and it was slow and less mpg than my maser....

V6 is not to be bought.....the cheaper than tye other cars and dont make a good sound.....but a diesel alfa.....sad......

GTV phase 3 3.2 Arese engined.

After driving a rather tatty phase 2 example 3l v6 at the weekend sold it to me, great car and that legionary engine.

Z3 or perhaps Z4 Lewis? 2.8/3.0 flavour would be a great drive & a well built sort of practical car.

Agree with MAF Lewis......Z4 3.0 is a great car driven many....Lovely to be in and a real classic look over a long bonnet.......I know they are not to everyones taste but for me I think they still look modern and great...

The seats are a bit odd in the GTV so I would change them to these Milanos:

I have seen them in a GTV before and look the business.

One of the points was 'class' chaps, in my opionion a 911 has it, a Z4/SLK/TT doesn't. The Spider seems to punch above it's weight, the others look like budget convertibles to me, I think of them alongside an MX-5/MR-2.

Hmm, Boxster. 3.2 S in a decent colour with a hardtop, nice ones about for £10-12k. That's the driver's option let's face it.

So looks and modernity of the Spider but with a compromised drive? Bear in mind it's not a track day car, just a fast cruiser. Or a Boxster - perfect drive, cachet of Porsche but poor-man's 911 image, aging again though not as old as 911 996.

Not a bad problem to have :)

I take your point Matt, but we're talking here about a car which drives even worse than the last Spider and if that's my reason for ruling it out, it seems a bit silly. It also has a lot less space inside. But a bit of a performance bargain and I'd rather have the 'real' Alfa V6.
