To be honest she's pretty good with things like this, but then I don't question her continual internet shopping, so it goes both ways! :D

Are the birdcage models out of production now Miles? I have the same model of the 250F but sans decals and I wanted to get the birdcage to go with it as it's such a beautifully made model.

I believe so Sean. There are a few model shops in Europe selling new ones, but their prices are ramped up over 300 Euro's and the Moss edition is nearer to 500 Euro's.

Cheers Andrew. They're Maserati's, so that's the initial attraction, but once you look at the detail, they're just incredible. I can't even imagine the design process and man-hours that must go into each one.

I love the fact you can unscrew the wheel centres on the 250F and take the wheels off and that the rear suspension is awesomely detailed, I really have to stop myself unstrapping the leather straps holding the rear of the car on as they may never go back on. :(

So I should up-date this thread I guess, as the collection continues to grow.

Some of you will know that I now have M-097. Bought it whilst at the Le Mans Classic. (that was an expensive weekend!! :D) It will display my other Maserati's, and photo's will follow soon, however I'm still building the display case (the CMC one is overpriced, too wide for where I want to put it and poor quality, unlike their models), so I'll wait until that's completed before the final 'unveiling'. I have however unpacked the transporter (this is an adventure in itself) and the detail is stunning. It's the best part of two feet in length!

Here is a stock photo. I'll take lots more once the case is ready.

Rather excitingly (well in my weird head anyway) I've now purchased M-060. Rare as hens teeth and the one I bought is only the second I've seen for sale. It's still on it's way to me from Italy, but I can't wait to see what the detail is like.

Another stock photo to give you a taster until I take some proper shots...

So this leaves the soon to be released 300S M-105, which is top of the list and a must-have. After that there's the signed versions of the M-047 Birdcage (M-061 and 2 respectively) which I'm not too fussed about as they're over-priced for what they are (transfer signatures of Moss and Gurney) and the newly numbered versions of the M-051 250F (No 32 1957 Monaco GP and No 2 French GP). Again I'm not too fussed about these as I have the No.1 Fangio - M-064.

So I'm building the case and plinth so that they're long enough that the loading ramps can be down. I'll have the bodied Birdcage down below, the chassis Birdcage on the ramps and the 250F and 300S up top.

These are the things that make me happy and probably the reason my wife is seeking to have me involuntarily committed! :D

I share your weirdness Miles, I'd love to make a similar display!
Not practical at the moment though as little hands would nab them as soon as my back was turned. I have a row of classic cars lined up on the mantle piece in my home office, I have noticed over the last 6 months or so that they're being moved and bits a "falling off" hmmmm.

Always liked model cars, in fact between the age of 9 & 12 I collected the entire range of 1:43 Bburago cars and kept them all in their boxes in a draw in my bedroom. And they're still there at my parents house. At 9 years old I convinced myself that they'd be worth a fortune one day... I may have been right, but I think it'll be quite a few years yet!

I look forward to seeing your finished display Miles! I'm sure it'll be fantastic!
