Took delivery of my first Maserati a few weeks ago - an 08 GT 4.2, with a mere 14k on the clock.
Why? Ummm...an emotional 'decision' that I'd had enough of bog-standard German boxes and wanted something different, always liked the GT and although I aspire to a Lamborghini one day (poster on the wall as a kid etc), this was a good step in that direction.
Now...having said that, after only a few weeks I can quite safely say that even if I do make it to the position of being able to get such a Lambo, I can't see myself letting go of the GT. It is simply gorgeous in every way. Its a pretty base model and light on the extras (heck, no memory or heated seats!? Whatever next...), but you know what, it doesn't matter. Its black with red leather (in v. good condition) and you can't ask for more in life!
But, a couple of questions... I'm not a real petrolhead other than liking the look of and driving cars, I have no mechanical background etc...etc...
i) on start-up, aside of the engine (!) there is what sounds like it could be a fuel pump whirring away for perhaps 30 secs or so. Is this right?
ii) I do get a bit of white smoke out of the exhausts when the engine is cold, although it clears within a couple of minutes - again, is this right?
Above and beyond that, any pointers on what I should look out for or what I've let myself in for - good or bad - would be v. much appreciated. As I say, it was an emotional decision and one that I hope - and thus far has proven - to be a good one!
