i just could not see myself ever buying an Aston if i had the funds, would always veer off and buy a Maserati or Ferrari.

But as you have already owned a Maserati and have a Ferrari, i can understand why you may want to go down the Aston route, they sound amazing though. Vanquish was a stunning car but the interior was not that great i dont think.

i would much rather this over an M6.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2543244.htm

This car is quite well known - bit of a dodgy history, £3k worth of paint needed and zero spec! A few have been to look at it, it's hung around for a long while even at that price! So that's not a typically priced car, they hold their value way better.

I'm here to defend Aston's honour obviously having had 2 of them (as I would defend Maser as well!) - the DB9 never seems to disappoint, the Vantage V8 does occasionally though. No idea why, it is usually 911 owners who have moved over to them and I think people forget just how good 911s are, whatever you think of them. There's a reason they're common! People get into the 4.3 and expect it to outhandle a 911 and outdrag a Ferrari - it won't do either, it is a 'budget' Aston with a mildly tuned old Jag engine. It is a thing of beauty, but not that quick, as Aston's have never been. Not sure whether one would outrun a 4200... I doubt it, at least not in a straight line - until you get to the 4.7, different animal.

Aston's aren't the best at everything, you either get them or you don't. If you want the best, no argument, you go to Ferrari and take the image/costs with it. But modern Astons have a stiff chassis, those that are said not to handle, much like the 4200s, likely have a dodgy geo. Because the Aston VH chassis is still the stiffest out there and they really do drive beautifully, though with the caveat that they're a front engined car and have a weighty nose.

That's good to hear you talk about the DB9 like that Enzo, because I say the same thing about the 550/575... I am really looking forward to our swap at Le Mans, especially on those big, wide, empty roads!

Vanq interior can be sorted very easily - most have changed out that flat ally panal to piano black or another finish. Astons are infinitely ungradeable as they're handmade! Vanquish is a car I would love to own, but soon... they are increasing sharply in value, a tidy one was £44k not long ago, now a *nice* one is £70k now!

DBS will be mine in maybe 3-4 years time! Hoping to stick with the DB9 until then, wont even lose much money. In theory...

I have heard that a few times on the forums, the Aston's dont live up to expectations.

I wonder if the expectations are just unrealistic? Can't expect an early 4.3 Vantage to drive like a DBS... FIAT analogy; can't expect an Alfa Brera to drive like a 599.

I kind of agree Marcos but, don't forget, the early Vantages, when new, cost in the region of 80k so, IMO, they should drive like an 80k car. As Clarkson said, it seems they cost that much because the badge can get that much, so maybe it's a triumph of marketing over engineering. Lovely to look at though and they sound fantastic.

Early ones were not that good but the later ones with the engine upgrades and handling improvements are much better ......

the early ones are 30k now so that says it all.....the engine upgrades are 50k.....

noise, nothing goes close for the money, looks also but not the best 30k you can spend is my point, M6 beats it as a car
