Well, the fun never stops does it?

1st drive since I got my new shocks etc fitted (nice to have some damping back), and CEL light blinks on, and so I pull in and into neutral.

Now the throttle, of its own accord, starts wanging from 1-4k rpm like I am doing some comedy traffic light grand prix build up. It was actually quite funny, I should have got out and videoed the car going bonkers to itself...rrrRRUM rrrrRRUM rrrRRUM. Not hunting, but properly revving up and down madly..

Did a throttle reset with no change, disconnected and reconnected battery which seemed to help..drove home and it has stopped swinging, but it is idling high at about 1500k.

I guess it has to be TB...the one I have is a David Askew 'option 1', so now out of guarantee, looks like boomerang in holland is the best bet for a contactless replacement at 400 euro according to a search.

Just thought I'd 'share'/ask advice...cheers.

yep, saw you had this done on a search dem. who did you get your TB from in the end?

Luuk (boomerang) is your man, he was the originator and instigated this contactless fix but bill does aswell and posts on here from time to time try and give him a pm

Jonny, just one other thing to check before you go getting the TB, you need to make sure its not the TP (throttle pot on the pedal) plus do you get a hissing noise from under the inlet plenum when its hunting madly.

I had this and it turned out to be the plate on the bottom of the inle plenum had come loose, the screws drop out and sit in the V of the block and the rubber gasket gets sucked in and out, hence the extreme revving....adding and blocking air.

Ok, thanks will check it out. I think Nigel the PO did the throttle pot, but wil check the paperwork..My 964 used to hunt and that was about an air leak I think. But this didnt feel like hunting cos it was so extreme.

Dem I think boomerang sounds cheapest option, and sounds like he does it right too, but I'll contact Bill..cheers.

Go with Boomerang / Luuk he is a top man.

When my air leak happened, and I do know 2 others who had the same problem, it shot up to 3500 rpm with a hissing sucking nose, so it was more than just hunting.

I am here too! Sounds like your throttlebody is gone. Pm me for the details. Just a point to remember: price should not be the only conciderstion! I know luuk is cheaper but I give a lifetime warranty and there are other mods which I know Luuk does not do. I have stock of these now so if you need one PM me

Cheers
Bill

Not so very nice of you Bill, especially not after our conversations earlier and me helping you out once.
It feels like a stab in the back.
And how would you know the current state of my conversions/mods?
We are improving the proces continuously and a big step was made regarding the durability of the magnetic rotor for example.
I am also very curious what your lifetime guarantee would mean in practice.
Does your lifetime guarantee also count for the original electronic module, or just for the contactless sensor wich will never fail?
Please lets try to keep things fair here.

I am sorry if I upset you Luuk. Yes you did help me out once and I was grateful. As for the lifetime warranty its for the compete upgrade including the TPS. So far there have been no issues with the upgrades so I have not had any claims. I don't believe I have said anything that was not fair:
You are cheaper than me
You don't offer a lifetime warranty
There are mods that I do that you don't

If any of the above are incorrect, please accept my apologies

Ps if you prefer you can pm me

Appologies accepted.
Again, after the one i provided to you, several improvements where added since.
Nevertheless, the first one ever modified (2007) still runs perfectly, so please take everything into perspective former/future TB buyers.
In fact: If the internal electronic module would not ever fail, the converted TB would be bullitproof for a lifetime indeed.
But I received one or two with defect modules in fact, very probably caused by people who did a "repair" earlier on, judging the damaged/bent covers and carved isolations.
Just to get things clear: Do you offer a lifetime warranty for the original internal electronics as well?

Luuk
You acceptance of my apology implies I got something wrong! Which of the three? Actually, Luuk you don't have to answer that.... I really don't want to get into who does what to what standard and how. You do your thing, I ll do mine and I am sure others would do theirs. If anytime there is something I can do for you feel free to contact me and hopefully one day I ll meet you and buy you a beer to say thank you!

I am going out now as there is a life to be had out there!

Guys, this is not the place to openly discuss your commercial differences, can I suggest you do this outside of this forum.

Usually we would not get involved in moderating any threads as we take a very open view but I have received several complaints from our members.

At the end of the day you both provide an invaluable service to our members and all you will achieve by this type of open discussion is to cause our members to loose confidence in you both.
