This is a great thread tracking the changes over time. Please post a picture once the car has the springs fitted. I have never heard of only one end being lowered before. I don’t see why it would be an issue but I don’t understand vehicle dynamics enough. Were there any things you had to consider before doing it? Agreed the wheel gap with these isn’t great.
Thanks for your kind comments. I got the details of the exact springs from a fellow forum member who has those rear springs fitted, no issues at all with it.

What spring is it Bebs? Im intrigued... I have bought the MC handling pack springs someone mentioned which lowers everything by 10mm I'm told? Less aggressive compared to the H&R lowering set i guess and cheaper?

You can bet your boots if trouble was likely as a result of those springs that Voicey wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole.

These are custom made rear springs by Faulkner springs. Drops the rear by 25 mm so a good compromise between the 10 mm handling pack springs and the 35 mm rear H&R springs.
I have the production details from Faulkner if anyone wants them. They were supplied to me by a fellow forum member.

It’s that time of year again and my GT-S is going down to Aldous at AV for its annual check over and oil change.
I’m taking the opportunity to do a few more upgrades.
Zep has worked his magic and I now have a full set of uprated discs and pads to be fitted.

That picture doesn’t do the new discs justice, I dropped the car off this morning and had a good look at them. Wow, they really are a serious piece of kit!
Almost couldn’t believe how huge they are. Thumbs up from the chaps at AV too.
Huge thanks to Zep for organising and dropping them off personally at AV.
Will update when they are on, together with the other bits.

They do have to be seen to be believed :D

Glad you are happy, looking forward to you trying them!

How is it looking Bebs? Any pic updates?
Car still at AV engineering, Aldous was waiting for a couple of bits; one of the headlight washers was leaking and had packed in, a new rear lower damper bolt was required when fitting the lowering springs. They had the front bumper off to replace the headlight washer which gave them the opportunity to do some further subframe rust prevention, reposition the lower front grills and paint them.
Unfortunately neither the braided brake hoses, nor the black spacers were a correct fit - will order replacements and make another quick pit stop at AV.
Will update in due course.

Haven’t collected car yet but here she is ready at AV. The custom lowering rear springs from Faulkner appear to have done a fine job of matching the OEM arch gap on the front axle.
I will put up some before and after close ups and comment on the new brakes when I get it home.

Presumably there's more to springs that just how long and how thick they are... Faulkner just say "Standard"!

I’m not knowledgeable enough to comment on that Eb, but I’m pretty confident Aldous wouldn’t have fitted these if there was the slightest hint of an issue.
I didn’t spec these springs, another SM forum member had these rear springs on his Skyhook optioned car and supplied the details to me. As I understand it he has had no issues with them.
Faulkner knew exactly which car and springs I was talking about when I approached them with the above mentioned details.

These rear springs were manufactured based on the specs of an original OEM spring, albeit slightly lower. The company who made them are excellent and already had the specs and profiles for standard Maserati springs, so are able to manufacture lower springs with springs rates to accommodate the drop or customer requirement. From experience these springs ride very well indeed.

Hi Bebs, has Aldous recommended getting the tracking and alignment done after the spring is fitted? Or is it fit and forget? Thanks

I’ll know more tomorrow after I pick it up. Not sure tbh if he has done a fresh geometry. He altered it last year when I thought the steering was too sensitive for high speed/motorway running. I’m aware that the factory setup is like that, to make the car feel nimble and responsive, but as I do a lot of continental road trips, it was too much for me and I much prefer it to feel planted.

Was just interested. So the assumption is the properties of the spring are are the same just slightly shorter? What do you sacrifice by having shorter springs, all else being equal? Is it just you're more likely to hit the bump stop?

Don't you also need to do something to the shock absorbers as well to lower the car?

I don’t think you are more likely to hit bump stop given that the ‘rate’ of the lower spring should effectively prevent that. They are not the same as the OEM springs, the drop in height is taken into consideration when manufacturing these.
I‘ve had lowering springs on other cars previously and have never had to adjust/alter the standard shock absorbers, but I’m not that mechanically minded and I’m sure others will know more. As I say, I don’t think AV would have fitted these if they thought it might be an issue. I will ask Aldous tomorrow for his thoughts on this.
