Newton - cracking tribute. That photo of you together made me smile and I hope you can in this difficult time.

Thanks for sharing the words.

Newton....you've lost your wonderful Dad...but the real consolation is he lived a long, fulfilling life and more importantly, he still lives on in each of his children and grandchildren, you can't say better than that.

Life will seem strange for a while, but am sure none of you have any regrets.

All the best Newton,

Frank

Newton

Terribly sorry to hear the news and my deepest condolences. What a man your father was, what a remarkable story and a brilliant eulogy. It sounds like you were extremely proud of your dad and I'm sure he'd of been equally proud of that fitting write up.

Newton, It's so sad to read of your father's death. You and your family have my sincere condolences.

I remember you posting earlier in the year that your father decided that he wasn't ready to go just yet, and I'm so pleased he was able to share in the several family celebrations during that time, particularly the recent wedding of your daughter.

From reading your post, he obviously lead an interesting life and I wonder whether a few of his mechanical skills have rubbed off on you?

With best wishes, Miles.

Newton,i remember about one year ago, your father was in hospital and once he went back home, you went together for a ride in the Maserati. This was the first time i read that your dad had some health trouble.
I completely understood your situation, it reminded me of my dad as well. Same hospital entrance, same love, same ride in the car :)

What an incredible life he must have lived. And how peaceful was his ending..: passing away with all his family around him.

I never managed to say goodbye to my dad, so i am happy that you did to yours.

Be strong my friend.

What a story and what a life. Your Dad sounds like a **** of a character Newton. So sad to hear he has passed away but what a life and legacy to celebrate.

I sailed Mirror Dinghies when I was a kid by the way and always wondered why they had the fronts cut off....!

Best wishes Newton.

Yesterday was the final chapter for my dad and a gathering of the clan to undertake his final request and wish...

It went very well, everyone assembled in the carpark and together with family and friends slowly we all made our way up to the top of the hill (one of the party was a nonagenarian) over the town to pop's favorite spot where we gathered, While things were being prepared by one of my brothers my eldest brother said a good few words about the old man and this was followed by a poem written by the third brother and I finished off with some more bits. By then my brother had got it all together and in the wind he launched the tethered kite with pop's ashes aboard (nearly 5 kg) and it climbed with dignity... Mum was handed the pull string and with a firm tug the knot slipped and the bag opened as planned, gracefully pops ashes were scattered to the winds over his beloved hillside and in the direction of the town, many tears and we all found a spontaneous applause of clapping. Later we retired to the scout hut and refreshments, a job well done.

Farewell pops...
