Started GTS today, fired up fairly quickly but got the ASR/MSR errors, turned it off after ticking over for a few minutes and no messages. Took out for a drive, still nothing!

Battery? Car drives perfectly but not been driven since Friday afternoon.

The same thing happened to me several months ago. I installed a new battery and haven't had the issue since.

If it happens before you have engaged gear and moved, then it's much more likely to be the battery than the ABS sensor and is a much cheaper & easier fix too

Yes literally after I started it, all in Neutral. I assume the battery too.

That’s a wheel bearing on its way out. Start saving!

The cold weather seems to kill them, did 4 last month.

How much and you seem certain? Is a wheel bearing a consumable item? Might be able to claim under my warranty

If its a one off it fine. If it happens again its pointing towards it being an ABS sensor which is embedded into the wheel bearing.

If the code stays on it can be cleared with a basic obd code reader.

There are quite a few threads on the subject. As the wheel bearing wears and gets a little play in it. The ABS sensor will get an out of range signal from the ABS sensor as it sees a different speed reading to the other wheels.

Overtime it will come on more and more often. If you dont do many miles then you might not see it again for a month or so.

As a basic way of telling which side it is find a couple of long left and right hand bends that you can drive round. If your on a right hand bend and it come on then its the left side that has been loaded up so its a left side bearing and visa versa.

Be aware though that if the ASR/MSP light is on you will also loose the hill holder function and the cruise control.

If your doing 1k miles a month or less then you probably have upto 3 months before the error light is a constant companion as a rough guide.

There wont be enough play in the bearing for it to be MOT failure. The abs sensor is just very sensitive being embeded in the hub.

If you dont have a code reader restarting the car will usually clear it until it stays out of tollerence levels.

4200 is around £500 a corner from memory. Im sure somebody will know on the GT.

It’s £600 plus the vat and 2hrs front labour or 3 if it’s a rear.

Just keep monitoring it, you might get lucky usually you get the active ride light on too with the ABS and MSR lights.

A diagnostic plug in reader will confirm 100% and tell you which corner. As Matt says, the rear is most expensive to change due to the drive shaft removal.

Always the optimist, hopefully it's a battery!

If it is a wheel bearing / hub it takes on many guises over x period of time.

Usual is 3 light tic/tax/toe where ASR, ABS and active ride are lit.

As above plus Park Off and Go to dealer.

As above plus ABS judder through the brake pedal

As above plus speedo registering 10-20 miles an hour when switched off and locked

As above plus missed shift error stored in gearbox

There maybe more but those are the ones I’ve seen.

Common is a change in weather and impact at front.

How many miles have you done since it last came on ?

If you have done a few hundred then its probably a rogue error message.

If its less than a few hundred miles it can take awhile to manifest itself again.

About 2ft not moved it
