Anyone that 'believes' all the 'living off the land' programs like Ray Mears, Bear Gryliss etc to name only two, must remember that the film crew is at least 4 strong, thier equipment would not fit in a large 4x4 so they need 2. The program 'star' may live off ants and beetle juice - the film crew would probably faint if more than 200m from a McDonalds. Camping would be an 'Out of Africa' experience rather than a sleeping bag on the ground spread on some nice insect infested scrub.
Much as I enjoy these programs I am always reminded of the waiting around I did whilst the RAF flew Nell McAndrew back and forwards to Kuwait City so she could take a sh1te instead of squatting behind a camel like the rest of us - in her defence when the story got out it was quite clear that her entourage had insisted on it rather than her.
I still have the picture of her using the portaloo in Basra Palace
