All armies rape and loot in war, not all soldiers but many will , this one is no different , other than husbands asking permission from their wives which has to be a first.

Many Russians view Ukrainians as low born people and treat them with disgust but it appears they don't know why , state indoctrination

This guy asks random Russians what they think of Ukraine

Yes, it was the wife giving permission that was particularly shocking, no one should condone rape in any circumstances.

You have to treat this stuff with the contempt it deserves , its more propaganda , to give it any credence without validation is meaningless IMHO , Ive seen war at its worst and its a phenomenon how men and women change once they are embroiled in it ............and yes women and children are the ones who suffer most from the distress thats caused by it ...................stuff is going on that we are not privy to ..........and Germany of all the nations should be taking the lead in the fight against this kind of atrocity given its history and leading the fight back ..........instead of putting gas before lives

Heard a quote whilst I was a away.

Russia used to thought of as the second best military force in the world. When actually they are the second best military force in Ukraine.

Still a bit early to be thinking along those lines , there will be lot of stuff which is being suppressed at the moment that will shock all from both sides

Huge losses, merged units, tactical and strategic mistakes, withdrawal from the north. Wouldn't surprise if we later find out of high cancer rates of those units who dug in around Chernobyl.
But yes it's going swimmingly for the Red Army.

I think you'll find that 'The Ukrainian Special Operation' will be used as a teaching case study,
across the developed world for generations to come.
Specifically, a case study in how to avoid intelligence failures pre-war.
A case study in how to avoid failures in every aspect of military preparation and execution,
from supply chains to leadership.
By leadership, I mean at every level, from Putin, all the way down to the most junior leadership
role. That being the Russian equivalent of Corporal.

One of the problems with the Russian military, amongst the many, is the lack of empowerment to the NCO ranks. This has been the case since Peter was Tsar. Whereby NCOs get people management and command training upon promotion, the Russian army don't seem to get it. This puts pressure further up the food chain to be more hands on hence generals being killed on the battlefield.

I love your optimism, but personally I feel, not withstanding your personal experience, you are wildly overestimating the capability and desire of the human race to change some fundamental behavioural traits

There was a crummy tv program the other day about 'The Art of War' by Sun Tzu.
The program applied his ideas to ancient Chinese struggles, theUS Civil War, Viet Nam war and WW2 showing the successes and failures of his teachings in each scenario
It prompted me despite the poor production of the tv program to read some of his many quotes on the subject. My conclusion was Putin is rather clueless and so it would appear are his generals.
Just take a look at some of the reasoning by Sun Tzu and apply it to the Special Operation
It is not comfortable reading for the Russian perspective.
I also have relatives in Georgia and they know precious little of the conflict and do not believe my input anyway. 1984

My dear chap. It is precisely because of my professional experience, that I believe that I am entirely realistic regarding mankind's desire and ability to change it's fundamental behavioural traits. I expect little to nothing. Therefore I am regularly pleasantly surprised.

Regarding my point about case studies. I didn't say that I thought that any lessons might be learned and adopted. Only that case studies would be written and very occasionally, even read.

Life in Russia. The Russian psyche.

A Russian conscript in Ukraine rings home and says,
"Mama, it's awful. We're in a real meat grinder here."
She says, "We don't need another meat grinder.
Send a blender instead."

A group of Russian peasants are standing in raw sewage.
Right up to their bottom lips.
One of them jumps up saying, "I can't take this any more."
"I'm getting out of here." Immediately, another peasant grabs
him and shouts, "Shhhhh, stop making waves!"
