full S/S exhaust, no cats. sounds great though !
Oh and carbon fiber intake and airbox.
she was reving a little high on idle though. bare in mind it was the first fire up and i was fine tuning bits and bobs, as you can see there isnt even a dash in her, and the pedal box wasnt installed. so the Reving you heard was using the pointimeter!

Dan how were you thinking of running it? a standalone ECU for the engine? with a 3.2 lump a good free flowing exhaust and the standalone ECU you might get 275-280bhp.. with the 3.5 setup you could reach 310ish + exhaust and ECU or with the 3.8 you'd be looking 340-350BHP the 3.5 and 3.8 conversion cost the same or with a lot of rewiring and using ALFA ECU's you'd get 260 BHP from the 3.2 and exhaust 290ish BHP from the 3.5 and exhaust or 320-330 From the 3.8.
using the Euro 3 2.5 ECU would be the best option if you were to rewire that being the cheaper option but hardest to implement. using the Standalone ECU would be the easier but more expensive option

then you have mating it to the gearbox and custom rear axle.. a 75 rear Axle might work...

BTW i wouldnt use the AutoDelta conversion kits if you went down that route.

No idea :D

Just dreaming at the mo. Would love to have a bit more umph in the old girl and if I do that I'd rather have a lump that makes a great noise rather than the usual four pot turbo or supercharged. Does a lightweight 3ish litre 300bhp sweet sounding v8 exist?

Seeing as its only dreaming, what's the engine in a 348 like?

I guess the Ferrari Dino bares more than a passing resemblance to a S1 Elise, or the other way around, what did that have in it? Was it the same engine as a Lancia Stratos?

A BMW 3.0 straight 6 from a CSL would sound fantastic with open pipes and would have plenty of oomph too. Probably a bit long though.

I think it was IIRC a 2.4 V6 Ferrari lump. It may well have been from the Dino. I reckon an Alfa 3.0 V6 would be cheaper and more powerful.

Yes indeedy, they do sound awesome. (CSL engine)
There may be a gear box and drive shaft issue there though, so guess it'd need to be a FWD or mid engine doner.

Now you're talking CSL for me......Good if that would fit it would be brilliant......The only thing that would worry me about the Alfa or most V6 is the weight.....Would you loose some of that Elise lightness of touch and feed back by putting a heavy engine in th back...?

how About the 2Lt V6 turbo ??? they are a pretty agile motor and can be made to fit most cars.
Re the Alfa V6
if you went straight for a 3.0 or 3.2 they are cheap enough with a reconditioned engine costing around £2000 the use a standaline ECU and pipes
you'll get good power but not quite that of the R32.
the 3.0 or 3.2 conversion to a badboy 3.8 will cost you the price of an engine about a grand for a good one, (you can get cheaper but they are usually dogs).
then a bottom end conversion for that will set you back £2800., the top end can be left as std with the ECU and pipes you'd be looking 330bhp. If you went for a Full conversion you start to get a bigger price tag.. engine 1K bottom end 2.8K then £500 for racecams and 2.6K for race valves, retainers, springs, bases, bronze valve guides, solid cam followers and shims. that will up you RPM to around 8-9K and push out some serious power over 350bhp easily then you have the option of lightend flywheel and race clutch another 1.6K. and all this is before you even look at putting it into the car itself.
If you can get away with a straight forward drop in the you only need to look at changing the hubs. and shorting the driveshafts.. i would also use a 2.5 gearbox not a 3.0 or 3.2 (2.5 is faster untill top end)

All good info Dave, so as a wild guess how much do you reckon for the full Monty conversion?
To put things into context, a SC Honda conversion is £12-15k and gives around 320bhp.
A Honda does have the lack of weight on its side, re Andy's comment, but a nice V6 wins on noise all day long in my book.

the Full Monty including getting it all set up i say .....close to 14K
i can sort you out with a deal on the engine no problems, i have most of the conversion kit here already and a good V6 lump it was going to be put in the rear of my 156 but i havent the time at the moment so easy enough to sort the bits later on when i do, it will need some additional and different bits though as i needed a exact copy of the one i made for the front of the 156
Pistons, Liners etc are all forged too.

Give me a shout if you want to chat more.

Oh one thing though two options Re the gearboxes...
the 2.5 is the faster box untill topend, the 3.2 box is the slightly better box and will give you the topend.

both boxes will need regular maintenance or replacement if you intend to race the car all the time.

oh and the Full Monty is basically a and Big bore DTM engine. Huge RPM for a V6 and Power!

taken the Wild guess out. and been working numbers out.
Full engine conversion + exhaust + ECU and custom Throttle bodies and trumpets (trust me here wait for the bhp numbers :p) , Driveshaft and hubs Gearbox, Rad and finally flywheel and clutch.. your looking at 14.5K give or take a couple 100

now the numbers, and my mind is still boggling over this.. total expected BHP is around 400! with Torque pushing past 350 ft-lbs. and max reving at 8500rpm (but adjustable to requirements)
Now if you want to throw a supercharger on this aswell ...no i think i just wet myself.
