What grates on me is the talk of Thatcher detroying British manufacturing.
Lets be absolutely clear, British industry destroyed itself.
British Leyland for example, cronic lack of investment, woeful management, crippling industrial relations, shocking product quality, third world productivity, the list goes on.
Without Thatchers reforms of the trade unions and outdated working practices does anyone believe that the UK would still have a car manufacturing industry today? Not a chance in **** !
Today we have some of the most efficient car factories (Nissan Sunderland for example) in the World, and record productivity and exports.
