Just Who Are These *******?

Today I went to watch BSB at Oulton Park. After waiting for just under 2 hours to get out of the circuit we headed off home. At a crossroads we came up behind a new black Porsche 911 something or other with twin centre tailpipes. He turned left and we followed him. He then floored it hard, and so did we, up to about 100 and he pulled out about 10-12 car lengths. I was very impressed as 3 of us were in my 330D. He then eased off and as we closed (due to the fact he stopped accelerating before we did) he slammed all on and did an emergency stop to about 30 as other traffic was approaching. This left me the following options; stop faster than him (as he started braking first), swerve and hit the other traffic head on or run into the back of him. Luckily the new, carefully run in discs and greengrippers did the trick. He then proceeded along at 40 in a national speed limit. Not wanting to be behind such a tw4t, I indicated and overtook him. As I did so he took both hands off the wheel and clapped. As we approached the next 40 limit I slowed to 40 and he came past at about 60, and then braked hard again. At this point I lost my sense of humour and passed him as I preferred to be in front of him rather than behind facing the prospect of another brake test. Thankfully, he then turned off and disappeared.

The question is; What sort of a person would risk killing/injuring someone else just because his Beetle wasn't as fast as he thought it should be?

Let's be careful out there!

One amongst many! I just want to see what other people would do/ think if this happened to them.

It takes all sorts Benny... There is no justification for his actions but you have the satisfaction of excellent brakes and tyres and you now know they really were worth it! I have to say that I only drive mine with a clear head and I go into full biker defensive riding mode whenever I press the sports button (everyone is out to kill me) and so far it seems to have worked...

I'm more likely to get caught out by launching it onto a roundabout only to find the daft old bat in front didn't actually go!

Fcuking BMW drivers eh, where do they get off thinking they can drive like that, trying it on with any sports car in sight.... Oh... Sorry, I just read that again..... Fcuking Porsche drivers eh....

Whilst I suffer the old red mist as much as the next bloke, if someone brake tested me I'd drop back and leave them alone as they're clearly a nutter.

Clowns I can cope with but this guy was fecking dangerous. Someone as unstable as that in a car like that will cause a very unhappy ending for anyone in the vicinity when he runs out of his limited talent

Moral of the story don't mess about in the first place........Let him get on with what every he is getting on with. Seeing who is the quickest on public roads is just asking for trouble to be honest, one because its breaking the law and 2 you never know what idiot is in the other car. If the first part of the story didn't happen then the 2nd part would not have happen either.

Sorry Dad I won't do it again! Seriously though, when one gets used to driving with like minded chaps in performance cars one tends to develop a sense of camaraderie. Surely, part of that camaraderie is using the car as intended and, IMO, spirited driving and going "head to head" with a like minded individual, when road conditions allow, is part of the attraction of owning such a vehicle. However, and irrespective of whether using your car in this manner is "right or wrong", to purposely endanger the other person just because you haven't opened up enough of a gap, is absolutely reprehensible.
As for breaking the law, apart from posing, why get a car capable of 150+ if you stick to 70mph and trundle along behind OAP'S in Vauxhall Vivas? Why spend your life painting your wheels grey if you don't use them!? I can almost guarantee that just about everyone else on this forum occasionally "breaks the law" while enjoying their vehicles. These are performance cars and, IMO, stretching their legs is both an enjoyment and a requirement. I know I was in a diesel, albeit a performance diesel, but the principle of David v Goliath still stands! As to the moral, I reckon it is; watch out for tw4ts in black Beetles.

Its happened to me, they want you to hit the back of them, well round here anyway as theres so many people claiming £1ks in insurance....sad but does happen, or they might not be able to afford the car and having someone else write it off gets them off the hook, maybe they have gap insurance if its new...

That could be scary; a tw4t, an expensive car he can't afford to run and a large financial incentive could mean disaster for anyone not quick enough on the brakes!

had someone like that once, I was behind a Volvo in the countryside using my mobile( I know I was stupid) he kept slowing down telling me to put my phone down, in the end he stopped his car so I drove around him and he then floored it cut me up and came to my window to tell me to put my phone down as it was dangerous, nothing about his crazy driving!

PS do not drive on whilst on the phone I don't do it anymore.

I had some stupid woman shout at me whilst I was trundling along in traffic on my phone. Did half make me jump!
So I caught up with her and told her how distracting it was to shout at other drivers, to say nothing of being rude - couldn't she see I was on the phone, no manners some people.

Well, you drive enough miles, you come across nob heads like these. Best just to ignore them, but easier said than done I know.

I agree with the sentiments that he was probably angry because his car was not as fast as he thought it was!

Why is it these nob heads always drive German cars, its just so spot on and true?

Apparently the Insurance fraternity take a very dim view of points for mobile use when driving, they regard it as being worse than speeding. Beware, you can be done for using a mobile just sitting in the drivers seat, parked at the side of the road with the engine off.

Take the keys out of the ignition and you'll be fine...

Some interesting points made though about people in car's they cannot now afford, my car is all bought and paid for, it just added two years to the mortgage! There seems to be a few bikers on here, me included.
But the best point made is get away from the nutter, slow right down, let him find some other 'victim' or just don't rise to a 'racing' situation. If you are going to follow someone 'at pace' keep a respectable distance, so that he or she knows that you are just as fast but can take evasive action if they try something on.

Remember if two cars are seen close to each other at pace the rozzers will try to get you done for 'racing on the street' rather than 'just speeding' and it will go to court rather than a simple ticking off/fine and 3 points/speed awareness course.
