If anyone is interested in going maybe we could take a party up:

In advance of its official launch later this year, Maserati is organising a series of events which will introduce the new Maserati Ghibli to a select audience in major cities across Europe.

With this new car Maserati will change the premium executive car sector forever.

Please find attached an invitation to be among the first to see this stunning new car which will be on display on Saturday, 27th & Sunday, 28th July between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Abingdon.

If you intend to come along to view the car then please kindly RSVP by reply or by telephone on: - 01943 871660.

I look forward to hearing from you.

With kindest regards

Take a step up to the Ghibli S, sporting a naturally aspirated V8 producing 404 hp, and you'll have to fork out 63,415 pounds

Looks like they are rolling out the 4.2 again.....4.7 to follow do we recon????

The S is the one but its 10k more than the standard acr which had a cracking review by Harry in EVO..He questions the need for the extra BHP at 10k extra unless you are a BHP junky...Thats would be us then......This is turning out to be a great car for the money....WOnder who will be the first forum member to buy one....Interested to see how many pre orders they have as well.

has to be the S itll be same as the GT no one will want the 4.2 when the S is out,.......

Both engines are 3L V6 in both the standard Ghibli and S...Standard car pushes out somethng like 330bhp and the S 404BHP..... 0-60 is 5.6 against 5.0....Not a great difference....Suppose it will be about through the gears....

Not really - it's about bragging rights in the pub...

I am going to this Abingdon event as it's local, but probably on the Saturday (Sunday I am at the Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia weekend).

Anyone going to the Seven Notes event this evening in the Farringdon area:

http://www.sevennotes.com/london/

There's going to be live music from some famous DJs, showcasing of the new Bowers & Wilkins/Maserati sound system as well as viewing of the new Ghibli.

Went to the Frilford Ghibli event late today - a grey Ghibli parked on the grass and a small Maserati UK stand, with two nice helpful people from M-UK there. There are apparently two cars in the country, one diesel and the one they had here which is petrol, in grey with black interior, LHD. Doesn't look actually *bad* in the metal, would be acceptable if you didn't know the past and the badge :) but frankly having just got out of a QP5 it was going to be an uphill struggle for me, plus the colour combo is not my taste (I like light interiors, but others may think this is the bees knees). On the positive side: well, the boot is now huge, if that matters – about twice that of the QP (it goes much further forward, not sure how they have managed that Tardis arrangement). The whole car is just chunkier to my eye, and the elegance of the QP has been lost: overall short rump looks off balance to me; car looks deeper (footwells are further below the sill I think); drive space more enveloping - the central division between the front seats (with gear change and obligatory massive drinks holders for your two 15 ounce pepsi, etc) seems higher. Rear seat room just about acceptable. This one has a sunroof which removes a bit of headroom in the rear - I'm 5ft 9 and only had an inch or so of clearance above my head. Instrumentation is simpler and digital, as is the way these days. All of course will hinge on the driving experience, which today didn't reveal. Test drives should be available from Sept., diesel initially and petrol a month or so later - following which you can all rush out and buy one. Was told target is 30 sold in first year from each dealer (13+2 new dealers coming, I was told). Not sure how that compares to the present range or indeed other comparable cars?

Summary: I will not be putting the QP up for sale anytime soon….

Is it as big as our QP....It may be smaller than current QP but it's still a big car...........Now where near as elegant as your QP but I am warming to it. Would make a great every day Maserati which I suppose is what they are aiming it at........Its a BMW/Merc/Jag mid sector rival which is a different car to where they ahve been before.

I think overall length is the same as QP5 (5meters). Agree on their aim etc. I may have sounded more negative than I am - was just pointing out the differences compared to QP. And yes, I may warm more to it in due course; performance is certainly comparable in the Ghibli S. The twin turbo v6 seems an interesting unit. Just realised I didn't look under the bonnet!! (probably just see a big plastic cover...)

Norman, didn't think you were negative....To be honest when I first saw pictures I hated it. Now I'm warming to it I think they may have a winner as its a grower.....but seeing it in the flesh is needed first I think.

Like above, I'm warming to it.....but still think an old low mileage QP GTS will have more smiles per gallon.....and not have new car hiccups.
Wanna drive one, then comment on whether the magic is still there.......

Cheers Wattie

Looked at the one they had in Graypaul Nottingham a couple of weeks ago and it is simply stunning. Way more elegant than I thought and will give a lot of BMW/Jag/Merc drivers pause for thought. At £52k it looked like a lot of car for the money. Will I be swapping my GTS for one, no. But if I was in the market for a high end 4 door saloon, it would be very high on my list. If it drives as well as it looks, and most who have driven it say it does, then it could be a winner for Maserati.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a used Diesel Ghibli when I need to change the 335D. It ticks all the boxes and there should, hopefully, be plenty of them to choose from in a couple of years.

I recon your spot on Ian. If the BMW/Merc drivers do buy them in numbers then after 3 years I recon you will be spoilt for choice for £30k but they will be used every day so expect 40-50k miles on them.

If Maserati do a business lease deal I might be sorely tempted myself. Its just you lot ripping the p!ss out if me owning a diesel Maserati at SM events that us putting me off!
