Car insurance can be such a variance...and are so different from cover to cover, earlier in the year the goal posts were moved quite a bit and premiums increased, agreed value mileages reduced causing all sorts of headaches for renewals, possibly due to the volatile market with luxury car prices of late and prices being set for agreed values on day 1??.... i hear your stories and sadly the legwork is still with the insured. We do have a great partner on board with us who are very helpful and can offer all types of cover, they are also happy to disucss any queries and are very approachable. Good news is, if you are already a member with us , most of your details are already there to speed the process up for you - (http://www.supercarhub.com/Request-Insurance-Quote.aspx)

Part of the difficulty is that more the more mass market insurers, they operate a quota system, which I believe can be as fickle as time of day you phone, week or month, depending on if they have insured a certain number of certain high insurance groups within a defined period.......and then of course you add in 100 other variables.................................can be very tedious and incomprehensible!

Just renewed ins for my 2007 Gransport L E with Aon/Footman James
Unltd mileage ,500excess max ncb ,no points, full uk and european rescue etc and NO tracker required, car club membership £360 !
Apparently new guide lines in market , tracker not required for under £50,000 value .
Bugger!! also just renewed my tracker with Cobra Navtrack nearly 300 quid ,sod it!!!

Anyone else use AON / Fotman James for insurance????.

I use Hagerty with limited mileage of 3,000 and Footman after telling them my Hagerty quote dropped £200!!!!

I can get 5,000 miles with a lower excess with Footman, but I do like Hagerty, anyone experience of Footman?

Think it may be time for a change

Cheers

Just caught up with this one , so i rang AON Footman James for a quote, 2006 gransport NOT LE value £26K full no claims garaged limited mileage of 8k and they quoted £1299 couldn't get anywhere near the £360 , after quoting what was posted above the sales guy is now in a quandry , all he can suggest is that its £1360 and not £360 as its a newer car

Made my present premiums of £535 Aplan/ RSA for the GS and £468 Aplan /Groupama for the 4200 look well cheap

regards loz

Conaero.......guys...can we "template" the information given about insurance to make comparisons a tad more relevant?

Such as......

Car type -

Age of car/value -

Driver age(group)/area -

NCB level -

Excess level -

Points total -

Premium paid -

Or some such, leave all or some of above in/change or add to?

If suspicious of a very high premium based on nothing of consequence do check whats on your file with Claims and Underwriting exchange.......CUE...www.cueuk.org phone number 020-72167373

As ever all based on operator error....before you know why a premium has been upped by 10/20/50 per cent just because you made contact with your insurers about an innocent query....!!!!!!!!!!

One of which is asking about the limits of your access etc...and the insurer then notes down you've "withdrawn" a claim.....even though you actually didn't make one in writing.......as ever they love to shaft us!

Plus you have to pay to get your file from Insurance database Services Limited for £10, then amend it.....;).....who ever said the private sector was best....;)....;)

Did you know you were supposed to inform your insurer of EVERY incident...even if you don't make any claim? Plus this is all entered on above data base anyways.

If you don't and they find out about it they can cancel your policy.

All because 1% of people insured try to make fraudulent claims...........great for the 99% rest of us....:(

Sorry to join this to an old thread but I couldn't find anywhere else that mentioned Thatcham Category Immobilisers.

I'm just sorting out insurance and I have a good quote from RH Classic Cars insurance but they require a Thatcham Category 2 Immobiliser. I understand from the Thatcham site and reading round the internet that Maserati factory immobiliser/alarm isn't Thatcham listed but if it was it would be only Category 1.

My questions are :
1. Is the correct?
2. If so how difficult is it to fit a new immobiliser with the higher Thatcham level - and do disconnect the factory installed one?

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate and welcome.

Not heard of tgat at all. I usually get asked does it have the factory standard immobiliser.

What car are you trying to insure?

I w
Oils have thought that replacing the immobiliser is not going to financially viable, sounds like a big job.

Thanks Consero - not the sexist subject on this forum so appreciate your thoughts.

It seems there are several Maserati coupes that have got an independent immobiliser out there. Most to satisfy insurance companies. Having spoken to Thatcham's today the only reason Maserati's factory installed immobiliser isn't approved by them is that Maserati haven't asked them to approve it. It's probably not worth them paying the fee. Having spoken to the insurance company today (RH Classic) they have agreed to accept the factor installed one even though it isn't Thatcham approved.

Breathing life into an old thread with a sort of update...

My multi-car Admiral policy came due this month and they asked for over £1.5k for my GTS and the family Verso. After much hurrumphing and grumbling (them as well as me) they reduced it to just over £1.4k. And that's with 13 years no claims (touch wood) and an £850 excess on the Maser. Sooo.. after phoning round a couple of places I tried Churchill who will do the two for just over £900. Staggering. And there was me all ready to renew by default. Only proviso with Churchill was that I needed to resubscribe to the Cobra NavTrak system. Oh, and a £900 excess, which is scary. Is that level of excess typical, by the way? Apparently they let me take it to any sensible garage for repairs and don't reserve the right to use second hand parts (as Admiral do).

So £500 saved for the price of a couple of phone calls. Helps towards next week's major service.

My insurance is up from renewal in the next 3 weeks, and i was wondering if there have been any developments in the market.
I have been unable to get my premium below £900 (44 years old, no points, 10 years + no claims) for past couple of years, and yet i'm sure i have read some previous posts that some of you guys are renewing at £500 ish??
I wonder if anyone can recommend a specialised broker or insurance company before i hit the the comparison websites?

cheers

Hi James,

£900 is a bit steep mate, I think I paid around £600 for my 4200 and I had to that in a hurry, so there may be savings next year. I went with Saga being an old bar steward. I think both Supercarhub and Sports Car Drivers forum have links to insurance and are supposed to be competitive. Rates fluctuate like mad and now we have the equality thing from the EU coming in, lady drivers can no longer be treated differently, so that might affect the price too. I am going to try and go direct to some actual insurance companies and see what results I get. Although I have done this in the past and got better rates via a comparison site for the same insurance. It is very much trial and error. When I was insuring my 4200 for the first time, I spent 2 weeks looking at insurance and because it went in to a different month, it cost me another £200, could not believe it..??
I might try Aviva and go direct to see what they can offer.

Cheers

Incase anyone is close to renewal, i have found Privilege Insurance and Quote Me Happy consistantly coming up with the most competitive premiums. (44 years old, Merseyside, 10 years protected no claims, no claims or points)

My renewal with Aviva was quoted at £1900 (up from £1000). Privilege £579 !!! Result.

Makes me wonder how last years most competitive, Aviva, can price themselves so far out within 12 months ??

Crazy, but 1'm happy. I think a holiday in the sun over New Year is on the cards with my savings made!
