Went to the supermarket today in the beasty and as I walked away from the car a mother came up to me and said that her son had said to her as I was parking "that'll be me one day mum"

It caught me a little off guard, I don't mind admitting. I said to the lad, who was about 17, that it had always been my motivation to be able to have one of these one day. And whilst it won't come over night and will take a lot of hard work, if you want it enough you too will get it one day.

His mother was beaming. All I can say is, good luck to him! And if this brief encounter helps him to focus and helps him achieve his goal then I'll be beaming too.

One of the positive sides of supercar ownership that i thought I'd share :D

Never seen this happening here..

People are jeleous and all they do is gossiping and asking "how did he find the money for such a car, such a home"etc etc..

Only a few people know about my ownership, and the reason is above.

Loved how comfortable you feel with a supercar. This is how it should be.

Good on you Dan; just the right answer to give too....

Did you let him have a sit in just to drive the notion home?

Nikos, sadly for every positive experience there's a couple of negative jealous ones to go with it, but I generally ignore those ones ;)

Newton, I didn't! I've been kicking myself since. As I say I was caught a little of guard, as I went around the supermarket I was reliving it in my head thinking that I really ought to have sat the lad in the car.

Dem, very nice of you to say. Thanks :D

Dicky, I hope so. I think the car did most of the inspiration if I'm honest. Seeing a new 911 turbo in Guards Red in 1986 at the auction house I used to go to with my Dad was what did it for me. Although I've never owned a Porsche...

Adam, I love using it for every day stuff. In fact... I just love using it! I've had it 4 months now and have done 8,000 miles in it already. No point keeping it in the garage and just looking at it IMHO.

Well done mate. Our day out in it certainly gave me inspiration, or was it perspiration?! Nice to see such a positive reaction to our play things.

" Er, yes"
"We were watching as you came in."
"Yea. You probably heard me aswell."

Major Kudos to the OP.

Never understood the whole "jealous" attitude.

Don't be jealous. Work hard and maybe you too will be able to afford one.

Nice post. :)

Great story Dan..........you should have got his name and address and followed his life......could have made one of those films where they follow children through the years.......

When I dropped my eldest son (14) at cricket in the Maser last weekend one of the team asked him if it was his car. Naturally James replied yes, to which his mate said "Great! You're going to get LOADS of sex!"

James is inspired now.

That is the sort of attitude that owning such a car should evoke, not the nee jerk jealousy reaction.

Hats off to you Dan, you have worked hard, taken risks and its paid off, how anyone sat at home on benifits has the nerve is beyond me.

As you say, for every positive, there is a negative, as I found out when you kindly lent me the Lambo, I had a van driver give me the 5 knuckle shuffle wave, not provoked, just sat at a junction.

In a latin country, like Spain, its so different. Everybody smiles, and gives the thumb/finger kiss!
Back in Uk, its BMW drivers, that seem to get the flack. Some people have this attitude, that they must be better then their neighbours. How daft, and small minded!
I must say this. People born with money, tend to push it down your throats. People who have grafted, are usually the opposite.

It's tragic to be jeleous..have seen this many times here. Women have relationships with men who only have expensive cars or houses in expensive places...When i had the MG or now with the Mas, there are several of them wanting me!!!hahahahaha...but i don't care...

Very well said Dan, a lovely little story to brighten the day and I hope the lad works hard and eventually get's one. Forget the moron's who don't want to work and take the risks, they will never get anywhere, they deserve everything they get AND SO DO WE!!!!
