I'm sure there's more than one nice part to Essex, but I'm not going to go looking for it.
I am going to go and look for a new car though & I think I've set my heart on a Maserati Gran Turismo, hence being here. Sadly I know very little about them, except they look fabulous and I want one, so I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction with regards to buying, owning and living with one.

Due to me being a bumbling fool I'll more than likely just ask loads of obvious and stupid questions so you'll have to forgive my ignorance, or not forgive it, I'm not really in a position to start demanding.

My budget is £40k absolute max, I can't go a penny over that. Even though £40k is a truckload of money I'm finding car hunting really annoying as I always want the newer better things and yet I can never afford them. So I think I'm looking at the earlier cars rather then the better, shinier newer S version.

Is there somewhere on the forum I should start with my list of ******* questions or is there a FAQ for people like me.

Thanks

Welcome RobertS. Pull up a petrol pump. This is the best Maserati forum in the world.
Sadly I cannot comment much on the GT, as it was out of my budget, but I do know something about Essex :)

Don't think we have a FAQ, but shoot any questions. Someone will answer :)

Welcome Roberts. Good choice of forum, good choice of car and - I'm sure Catman would agree with me here - good choice of county.

There are a bagload of considerations with the GT, not least of all which engine - 4.2 or 4.7. And then the gearbox - auto or the joyful, raucous and addictive MC Shift. I'll be honest and say that I don't know where MC proces are sitting at the moment. Probably a bit north of 40k. Have a look on here, Autotrader and Pistonheads to get some sense of what fits your budget. In terms of running costs they *can* be quite sensible, and reliability (touch wood, sign of the cross etc etc) is pretty good on these. Some items are expensive, especially brakes and clutch. And some things are off a Fiat Punto so you can pick 'em up quite cheaply if you know which alternative yet identical part to go for. Servicing is around 1,250 from an independant for a major one. Essex is blessed with Grimaldi over in Halstead and of course Lancaster in Colchester, and for a main dealer they are refreshingly willing to be sensible with their charges. Some kind of service is only every 24 months or (I think 12k miles) so service costs are to some extent within your control.

One thing to note is that these are bloody big cars so front parking sensors are essential (in my view). Also, get an independent inspection.

Good luck and keep us posted! Oh, and ask daft questions too. The more the merrier.

Hi Robert and a big welcome to the forum.........Ask away with ay questions as there are loads of knowledgable people on her.....A good place to start would be Dicky Grace. A well repsected used Maserati dealer on here who is more than happy to talk Maserati and give advice. He may even know where to find you perfect car....A number of satisfied members have purchased a Maserati from him...Worth a call....

I feel a local pub meet and maybe a run out coming on. Un-Maser'd guests always welcome, too. Somewhere a wee bit further west might entice the likes of Cat "Chuck Norris fears him" man, Newton and maybe those north London sorts - ChrisB, Dem and jerkmoans (who seems to be missing in action).

Fox and Hounds in Hunsdon </default answer> :)

Certainly be up for just about anything, assuming aging 4200s are allowed :D

Well somebody has to live in Essex..!!:mock8:

A very warm welcome to the forum Roberts (is that supposed to be Robert). You can put any question you want on here, even to the extent of going to look at a car, you might just find somebody who could go with you, but you will need an Independant Specialist to check the car before you hand over mega bucks..!!

Cheers
