Well Louise has given into this.
After nabbing my 530 beemer before Christmas, because she could no longer get little one in the back of a 3 door 1.4 clio. She has now decided that she can't spend £70 a week on petrol so has her eyes on my Mini Cooper S.

I can see that it might be hard to stick to my New Year resolution of not buying any cars this year....

My wife is also complaining to me that her 4x4 costs £120 to fill up and lasts about 10 days and is now angling for a new car (any excuse!)
Although currently Maser-less, my approach has changed towards driving and fuel costs. My day-to-day car is now a diesel Alfa GT which I wasn't very excited about buying, but now really enjoy. The fuel warning light came on today on my way to the station so I'll fill it up at the weekend - that will be 5 weeks since I saw a fuel pump! Sure I'd love to have a Maserati again as a daily driver, but I can't see that happening with current fuel prices and mid-teen MPG at best. I shall buy another one as a toy car and have absolutely no concerns about any of the costs because it will all be in the name of pleasure.

When you decide to sell perhaps we'll have a chat. I can realise the AC option quicker than the GTS I want. Wife's new car and kitchen extension have unfortunately taken hold of my spare cash!

I too have to drive around in a fiat punto in the week so I can enjoy the maserati at the weekend. Whatever the price of petrol it will not put me off enjoying the car, what else can give me so much for £50, clean answers only please.

Hmm.. can't take my Maserati to work as strictly no business use this year on insurance! Maybe next year if I have some NCB on it.

So the Masser is pure fun! Therefore I don't quibble about fuelling it or any other costs it has so far put to me (minimal as yet). 10k a year mileage (estimated fun)

I have a Peugeot Partner van on a lease that has back (B,C pillar) windows and a set of back seats giving me a 6 seater for going out en'mass and as a work horse gives me 41.5MPG diesel 30k a year millage.

My wife also has a Toyota Aygo for economy as a town car it'll return around 50 MPG petrol and nippy as you like group 1 insurance and £20 road tax... cheap cheap cheap! about 15k a year mileage

I still think that turbo diesels are the way forward for everyday vehicles. Even a 320d can give you cheap thrills with cheap costs which offsets our Maseratis which give big thrills with big costs, as we all know. A worthwhile trade off as I am sure you will agree. Enjoy.
