Man maths to one side...

What are the approx running costs you have incurred for expected and "surprise" maintenance?

It seems £2k a year is mentioned as the expected budget.

Feel free to add details of some tough to swallow bills!

Welcome to the forum.
2k is a good budget plan. Some years will be less and some more but it balances out. Servicing is every 2 years, use a recommended independant to keep costs down and know it is being done right. Get the best you can within your budget and make sure you get a PPI before putting down any money.
Variators 3k post 2010 should be OK
Clutch 3k+ (MC Shift)
Subframe £eye-watering
Major service £1600ish or 3k MD

There’s nothing cheap on them really, apart from the price of buying one compared to similar age ferrari, 911, aston’s etc. None of those cars are cheap to maintain either though.

I’d say 3k/year is a safer number for maintenance/common age and wear failures/tyres.
What you don’t want to do is buy one that looks amazing, and could be a nice car, but just needing several things soon. Like brakes, wishbone bushes, a big service and tyres. That could be about 7k. Hence PPI.

For me, £2k a year would do it, that will cover discs, bushes, etc, as they are unlikely to all need doing at once. Some years it might be much less and others a bit more.

I do service mine every year instead of every 2 years, suppose that adds a bit.

Certainly would. I do my oil and filter between services. But then I’m doing hundreds rather than thousands of miles.

I'd be inclined to agree that £2k a year is about right if you are not looking to retain an MD warranty.

That said, this will / can go very quickly if you have any problems and / or need tyres etc. and a full service in the same year.

I would have thought there needed to be some qualifiers to running cost estimates as tyres, brakes and clutch for the the semi auto cars are largely down to how many miles per year as well as how hard driven those miles are (all else being equal). I only had my previous GT 2.5 years but cut no corners and £2k per year proved plenty for 4K miles per year. Another qualifier is how you think about the £2k per year in that if one year you only spend £400 you should prepare for £3,600 the following year. With that mentality my view is you’ll be unlikely to get a nasty surprise if your mileage is reasonable and you’ve bought a good car, and may end up “in credit”.

I could of course be kidding myself and or haven’t felt the full weight of Maserati parts prices yet!

Servicing every 2 years in minor/major/minor/major/minor etc

All prices plus vat based on specialist/Sportsitalia, main dealer could double it:
Minor £795
Major £1.395 no lambda option

Clutch on MC Shift best part of £4K

AC pump £1k

Front bushes £1k

Tyres full set £1k

Variator mod £2k

Full variator job £3k

Cam covers £750

Brakes front £1k

Brakes rear £500

Coolant header tank £100

Fan relay £100

Underbody corrosion treatment £325

Broken springs £500 per axle (pair)

Alternators £1k

Battery £100

Wheel bearing ABS £1k per corner

I would say £4K every 2 years or £2k per year would cover it if you don’t buy a nail.

Get it inspected £295

Am I right in saying variators are not a common problem on later cars? If so a later ZF auto car removes two of the big bill risk items.

Bloody 'ell you lot are helpful - can you help pay maintenance bills too?!

Seems like it's a simple strategy of buy good, have some cash you are willing to lose, enjoy the car and hope to end up with a pain-free ownership.

Hence why the GT Sport Auto Makes more sense than a Strad or MC Shift and this should be reflected in values...(he said hopingly)

I would agree £2k is sensible budget.
My GTS cost me service and tyres only for 4 years before playing catch-up with bushes and abs and small preventative stuff. All well within the £2k per year and left the car tip top condition for the next 4yeats
