Gransport First Impressions
Picked the car up from Marenellos, Egham today, first off I'd like to say how pleased I am with the service provided, it was a smooth and comprehensive handover with no unnecessary hanging around. Many thanks to Neil who knew the car well and delivered it in the condition promised. (Unveiling with a silk cover was a nice touch).
Condition: Well the car is pretty much mint, inside and out and the prep was all done very nicely. remember I had not seen the car prior to purchase, (or any Gransport for that matter), in the flesh so I was a little apprehensive. The Verde Goodwood paint job really suits this car and the Tan interior is a great match. All the manuals and service logs are in perfect order and the dealer has sent away the Maserati Warranty docs which I am delighted to be getting as I understand that the cover is pretty good.
The tan hide is in great order, no cracks or scuffs and all the switch gear works, there's no fading on any of the graphics.
I can't find a single negative issue to report thus far but I will have more daylight time with the car tomorrow.....

First Drive
This is the most nervous that a vehicle has ever made me feel and that's surprising. I've driven plenty of newer, more expensive cars but the fact that this is a Maserati coupled with the 4.2 under the hood certainly got me a bit edgy. There really is a sense of occasion when the start up procedure fires the engine, (even more so inside the delivery bay at Marenellos) and as I pottered out of the forecourt in bottlers auto mode it took about 10 seconds for the Gransport to completely overwhelm me with it's wow. The five miles or so to the M4 was all it took to get the better of the flappy paddle/throttle feathering change ups. The driving position is fantastic, seats are very comfortable and the visibility is amazing for a low(ish) profile coupe, that was a big surprise as it's not something that I've heard you long termers mention on the forum. It seemed to take around five minutes to get to Bristol where we pit stopped and I swapped cars with my wife to give her a turn in the GS. I have to say that following and being tailed by your wife in your new Maserati is pretty cool, it's easy to forget how good the car looks when you're cosseted inside and Mrs Slimnrp looks pretty fit in a sports car!
Once back in the drivers seat the rest of the journey flew by and got better and better as the roads became more familiar, the last ten miles to the house on windy b roads being particularly memorable!
Fuel consumption was around 70 litres for the 290 miles, can that be right, 20 mpg??!
Only discernible negatives are the higher than expected wind noise at motorway speed, (seems to be coming straight from the wing mirrors) and the dash board creek which I haven't had in recent years with Audis, Jags and the Lexus but to be honest it's easy to drown them out with the V8! Oh and the lights are poor but that again is coming from cars with xenons I guess...
