I recently purchased my 2014 gts that had been sitting unused for approx 7mnths. The day after I took ownership I noticed a loud mechanical noise on cold starting, for those that are also experiencing this noise I'd appreciate any feedback if any.
Despite searching various topics and forums I've not managed to find any answers or diagnosis for the problem so this thread may be of use to others in the future.
On cold start the engine produces a very loud mechanical rattle/knocking sound coming from the back of the engine, after around 5mins or so when the Oil warms up and comes off cold start the sound goes away.
The car has been with AV Engineering for over a week having various tests done.
Aldous himself hasn't heard this sound before, after testing with various sound equipment he managed to pinpoint it toward the back of the R/H crankcase.
Before moving any further he sent some engine oil away for analysis to ensure no Internal damage had been done to the engine.
Analysis came back, no signs of excessive forgien material, all measured values are within tolerances.
This is good news as it would suggest that there is no internal wear occuring. AV have ordered a sump gasket and will be exploring the pickup/sump area for any potential issues. Although the oil has been recently replaced and is the correct specification they will replace the oil with Shell Helix Ultra 5w40.
That's it for now, I'll keep the thread updated when I hear more.
TIA
