i disagree.....

the DMS chip is not noticable with dealers and porsche even endorse it as its warranty is fine with it

few years ago before i was on here a friend of mine had the 2007 QP, he was a customer, he used DMS and loved it even more, had loads of service and warranty work done and nothing....not a mention, you could always remove it if you want.....again the yellow pyjama guy, he uses DNS on nearly all his cars, the last one he put it on was the 997 turbo and he sold it to main dealer with no come back, as he did with the R8 private...

so you buy a 4.2 at 46k....spend 2k on the exhaust, found out DMS charge £600 for the maserati....so for under 3k you have the power and sound and its under 50k...

You make it sound very tempting now DM.......hhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............and just £30 to change the badge at the back....;)

Lets get things into perspective. We are talking about the standard GranTurismo as if it were a biturbo or something. It is still a very desireable car and pretty quick by anyones standards. The GTS is just a bit more hard core. No body in there right mind would say no to a Granturismo.

Hahahahah , Urby my 4200 and my Gransport both out perform a standard GT, so i would be taking a backwards step performance wise which matters to me , you as a poser of the highest degree want the looks prestige of having a GTS but dont use the performance capabilities , so really a Morris minor would do you in my book hehehheh ,

I love the look of the Turismo period whether GT or GTS but i'd sorely miss that power difference , residuals and technical finacialities dont usually affect me because i generally take the salvage route anyway , its performance i would be after , and if £3-4k gave me the power difference then i would be a happy bunny

All tongue in cheek mate didn't mean a morris minor i meant a proton top of the range tho

Some interesting thoughts.

I have used DMS before and am happy with them. My issue was with their map being overwritten by a dealer software upgrade, more than likely unintentionally. Bear in mind that a 10% increase in power might not be missed should it be taken off. Most DMS upgrades are to turbo engines so the enhancements are normally double what you will get on a n/a engine like the Maser. You would notice that being taken off.

I have not driven a Gt with either engine but if you look at the brochure, the power and torque increases of the 4.7 over the 4.2 are pretty minor - both under 10%.

Incidently, if you upgraded a 4.2 to 4.7 front discs/pads, would the caliper need to be replaced too? Sorry if this is a silly question but I don't know.

Bob, you beat me to it. One of the biggest criticism of the GT is that its brakes are not up to the job.

You would need bigger wheels to fit the larger discs, so its not worth it.

To rectify this you are looking at:

Front Discs:
GT 4.2
Part No. 202016
£533 each plus VAT and delivery

GTS 4.7
Part No. 202018
£521 each plus VAT and delivery

Front Pads
GT 4.2
Part No. 216226
£578 plus VAT and delivery

GTS 4.7
Part No. 980139070
£669 plus VAT and delivery

Caliper
GT 4.2
Part No. 197743 (LH Black)
£467 each plus VAT and delivery

GTS 4.7
Not Listed

Bear in mind that most 4.2s are on 20" wheels so that would not be an issue. Also if you a 2nd hand 4.2 it is likely that the pads/discs will need replacing in any case.

£1600 would get you 380mm front discs and 8 pot callipers and pads and steel lines , around £750 for 6 pot rear callipers and pads and steel lines , rear discs would remain the same

So £2500 would give you more efficient brakes than a 4.7 GTS , spend the same again DBW and a DMS chip and Larini valved exhaust system and your pretty much there

All acheiveable for under £5K

Those brake prices for the GT are high. I have seen the odd advert for 57 plate 4.2 GTs saying that they have just had the brakes redone. Wonder what a main dealer would charge for all the discs, pads, EPB shoes and labour?

Surely on the basis of Matt's post it is over £4k? If so then I am not sure whether I can afford a 4.2 GT even if I buy one for £45k.

That said the service interval would be 20/21 months on my annual mileage of 7k and there is no clutch to replace. Tyres will cost more mind that the 18" ones on my 4200GT.

Those prices are for the AP racing big brake system , superior to brembo's own , altho they are the same company , Brembo are the Mass market brake system where as Ap are specialized and more efficient, the equiverlant in Brembo should be cheaper, altho the discs will be 350 mm or 360mm

Think a lot depends on where you live Frank , and obviously how you drive , one should note that the turismo is heavier than the coupes , but the braking efficiency is similar , so less efficient retrospectively , here in roundabout city Milton Keynes i really noticed the brake fade approaching the 5th or 6th roundabouts , so much so that i went for the upgrade ( mind you im a bit of a nutter on the dual carriageways inbetween) so yes its a welcome relief to know that you can stop that hulking weight anytime anywhere , i'd rather be over efficient than under braked if you know what i mean , for all those Urby style drivers guess the standard ones will be fine
