I do agree with that Frank..They are totally different cars....But Maserati did pitch the Coupe at the 911 when it came out also.....

They pitched the 4200 a development stage too early.......it was the GS they should have pitched a Maserati as a rival to the 911...IMHO

hammond said "the gransport is the closest rival the 911"

i love the maserati ahead of most 911s but not all of them....the GT3 RS, the 997 turbo phase 2...these are proper supercars.....
masers are more GTs for me whereas the 911 is raw sports......

Nail on head there Dem......................

Yes..again agree Frank..The GS is a cridible 911 rival where as the 4200 never quite hit the spot as a 911 rival...But as you have said two different type of cars....

By the way anyone considering a GTR should consider that they are a nightmare for one very good reason.

Any frontal knocks and I mean even a slight parking knock can cause a safety mechanism to pop the bonnet. The net result of this is that it costs around £10,000 to reset this wonderous thing. There is a GTR in the carpark of the apatment block where my mother in law lives and it is always parked with a screen around the bumber to protect it from any idiots who might knock it. My friend sold his 911 turbo for the GTR and now wants rid of it........it really is not a practical car for anything else than track day.

Getting back to the post.

Note a number of 'new' 4200's on Auto Trader+ 4, but 4 less GS on there, and the ones listed have been there for months.

2008 Gransports with under 10,000 miles, still under warranty and only 2 years old..........I reckon under £40,000 is an absolute bargain when you consider what you are getting for your money........... for heavens sake its almost a new car

Never UM....They are just not worth 40k.......This seems to bare true as the 40k ones are just not selling....

They don't have a warranty. 08 cars were sold with 2 year warranty, heavily discounted, as the warranty kicked in when they entered the country and not when they were registered. A dealer will pay £30k for an 08 car now. Says a lot.

Dealers have the choice to register the warranty when they get the car or when they sell it. The former must help with incentives or you would not do it.

There are loads of 4.2 GTs in the network. Many are 2009 build cars and some will have less than two years warranty left even though they are unregistered and unsold.

PS They are the cars I am looking at as dealers' will have to discount them huge to shift them.

At some stage this year these cars will hit the market (importer incentive to shift stock when they get to 18/24 months old?) and the value of used 4.2 GTs will drop £10-15k overnight!

Not sure if anyone has pointed it out previously, but the last GranSports (as I understand it) came off the production line in Modena near the end of 2006, to clear the way for production of the GranTurismo.

So if you buy an 08 reg GranSport, as I see it you are buying a car that, despite being quite 'new', has actually not been driven much if at all for a large part of its life. That to me would be something of a worry, and certainly not worth paying a premium for.

Can anyone confirm my statement above about end of production?

there is a 2005 GS on autotrader with 40k miles for £26k which seems like a good price, cars like these could drop to £20k in the next 12 months if the GT falls to £40k. I wonder if it would affect 4200 prices

When i did the Factory tour Pat the ex Worldwide sales manager Mr Corrozzia told me that GS production stopped May 2007 , and that the QP platform was adapted to produce the New GT , so infact the new GT was actually in production whilst the tail end production of the GS was being finalized, still means that some last of line GS have been hanging around quite some time , in my book that wont do the rubber bushes any good what so ever , rubber bushes will last longer when they are used reguarly

Has to end though. Dealers have unused 2009 4.2 GTs that they cannot shift at £10k off list. They are also obliged to keep ordering the 4.2 even though no one wants them. Believe me, used 4.2 GTs will drop loads this year.
