Has to end though. Dealers have unused 2009 4.2 GTs that they cannot shift at £10k off list. They are also obliged to keep ordering the 4.2 even though no one wants them. Believe me, used 4.2 GTs will drop loads this year.

As much as i would love to see that happen Bob , just cant see it myself , i think Maserati will reduce contracted numbers to UK/European dealers , and concentrate on the Asian/ worldwide market which by all accounts is quite bouyant bar America that is

What Maserati UK should do is delist the 4.2 GT and give dealers a £10k allowance towards shifting all 4.2 GTs that are physical. Puts an end to it. There will be a hit to 4.2 residuals sure but it is needed to get the £55k main dealer 57 plate cars moving as they are overpriced.

Key point is that 4.7 residuals will
Be protected. Then we will be in a position like on the QP where the older duo select cars are weak price wise but the newer ZF auto cars are strong.

Lets not forget things are just not selling currently with most prestige makes sitting on the forecourt.....But they certainly does seem to be a lot of GT's and GT S for sale that have been up for an age.

I would imagine the 4.2 will drop off the price list soon....They must be struggling to sell them against the 4.7...

Think we maybe missing the point here' guys , we should be looking to take advantage of the future low prices of the GT, we all know the GTS is the one to have , why aren't we working towards beefing up the 4.2 GT , must be someone out there that can extract another 40-50 bhp safely , most other mods are sorted exhausts brakes etc , makes sense in my book if GTS prices are going to hold firm for another 2-3 years atleast

Surely we need to get Jeff at FD onto this or find a UK equiverlant

Very good point Loz.

DMS do an engine upgrade.

At 4.7 launch the road tests said that the last 10PS of the 35PS upside on the 4.2 came only when the sports button was pressed.

4.7 and 4.2 rear brakes are the same. 4.7 fronts clearly fit in 20" rims, not sure about 19". Very few 4.2s have 19" though.

I believe Skyhook on 4.2 is the same as on the 4.7 full auto. MC Shift has no Skyhook.

DMS do chipping for the 4.2 to 440 BHP, £1000.....

Any reports on same.......what about exhaust/air filter up-grades....with these three......in 4.7 power territory...................why wait 2/3 yrs.....when for 3K.....you can have it now!!!

Bring it on!!

Some issue on how easy dealers can overright DMS upgrades, intentionally or otherwise.

First of all a beefed up GT is just not the same as a GTS. Playing around with a standard car, other than maybe changing the exhaust, reeks of boy racer. It would certainly deter me from buying a Maserati that had been "interfered" with. So maybe you can extract more power but is it a false saving when you consider the residule values against a virgin GTS which has to rank as one of the best modern supercar investments.

Do we think that Gransports not selling is something about the car or do we think supercars in general are just sticking?????

Agree with Urban to an extent here, having been there - if you play with the car, then it is money that you will never get back. Having said that, with the FD ECM, exhaust mods and sports filter, I'm sure my Gransport was closing in on the performance of the stock 4.7 engine. And I certainly dont regret doing it.

I suppose people are more hesistant to "interfere" with a much newer car, but when 5/6/7 yrs old, they don't truly mind!

Ultimately trading off spending an extra 10-15K now or spending 3K or so now for same effect/performance.......choices!!!

Sometimes people buy what they can afford, we all want a GTS but as there is a big difference in the two cars and probably always will be, then a nice 'uprated 4.2' could be a serious choose for buyers that just don't want to wait. The same applies to people who wanted a GS but could only stretch to a 4200

Lets get things into perspective. We are talking about the standard GranTurismo as if it were a biturbo or something. It is still a very desireable car and pretty quick by anyones standards. The GTS is just a bit more hard core. No body in there right mind would say no to a Granturismo.

i disagree.....

the DMS chip is not noticable with dealers and porsche even endorse it as its warranty is fine with it

few years ago before i was on here a friend of mine had the 2007 QP, he was a customer, he used DMS and loved it even more, had loads of service and warranty work done and nothing....not a mention, you could always remove it if you want.....again the yellow pyjama guy, he uses DNS on nearly all his cars, the last one he put it on was the 997 turbo and he sold it to main dealer with no come back, as he did with the R8 private...

so you buy a 4.2 at 46k....spend 2k on the exhaust, found out DMS charge £600 for the maserati....so for under 3k you have the power and sound and its under 50k...
