just an update - my last service (prior to trip to Germany) I had a reading of 36% left and this year on my service it showed 39% used ??? clutch seems to be fixing itself :)

i suspect, well hope last years reading is wrong and its used and not left ? also since the service the gear changes have been fine (did have a software update (not sure if related))

I would be very surprised if there is any material difference between the MCV and GS clutches (other than perhaps mapping and PIS), since the former doesn't have to manage any more power from the engine.

I think people take the 'readings' as gospel!

Just before I bought my car and when the clutch was replaced it was reading 123 per cent. 2k after it was replaced its 19 per cent worn already?

Hey mate

Like you, I think (hope!) I have a little while left on my clutch but it has done 22,000kms since it was replaced (before my owneship) so I'm just doing some pre-emptive research! In your research have you found a price to supply to us over here in Oz? How does it compare price-wise to an Indie supplied OEM one do you know perchance?
Cheers

Everything I've read and heard says not to take the clutch wear "reading" to heart.
In the end, it'll need replacing when it starts to slip! That simple.
I've been driving mine with the original clutch at 43500 miles.
While it may be higher than some (at 66% worn according to the read out), it is less than others!
Just my 2 cents! :thumb2:

Is it just me or do the earlier cars seem to have clutches that last?

My 02 Spyder is also on its original at 40k miles with around 25% remaining where my GS was on its 4th at a similar mileage?

2 of those replacements I know we're due to collapsed clutch cover tangs, and they were all the later type clutch.

Something doesn't ad up here?

Gary,

Haven't done any in depth research but from indications would appear to be close to twice the cost for the unit. A few have been installed on Lambo's and there is an indie in Melb. who has has experience with.

Like you I have a fair way to go (if we can remotely beleive the readout) so its not a pressing problem.

The first cars software was later updated to be more softer?
I've read before that the 02's gearbox software is the hardest hitting, and actually preferred by many. Less clutch slip, less wear?
One reason why I don't want the one way trip to the updated software, if you don't like it, you are stuffed!

Mike I can understand that. My 02 was hard hitting but the whole car lurched during this proceedure (ala Clarkson style) so I have had a custom map applied and its much much better.

Whilst we are on the subject of 02 cars is it me or do these cars feel quicker than the later ones? My Spyder is definately a harder puller than my 06 GS, performance that is, not looks :)

The lurching is down to the speed of the shift between gear changes?
Can you explain this custom map?
I believed the only option with the first generation 02 cars was from software MAC 1BF45 (both Coupe and Spyder) to MAC 45F08 (MAC 45E49 for the spyder)
Speeding up the gear change only achieved via the Formula Dynamics DBW module on earlier 02 and MY03 cars I believe.
From MY04/GS the gear change ECU and software was changed, so quicker change than the 02/03 cars, unless the FD DBW is fitted.

I have also heard that the earlier cars appear to be quicker than the facelift/GS, again maybe down to the change in software.

Classico ....original and best then!!! Ha hah.

19per cent after 2k miles, I'm obviously not using my cars full protential - 3 per cent after about 6k miles
