Goodbye

Well it was half a click bait.

My wife is refusing to go out in the Maserati when we go out as a family.

We have a lot of "new friends" with kids now and she is embarrassed we own a Maserati. I told her she should get some new friends. But she is refusing to drive it so it hasn't moved for about 6 weeks.

So it is goodbye to the Ghibli. Which is sad as I thought it would be a great family car. I even got used to it being a diesel.

I am slightly concerned though that the GTS might be heading in this direction! Now it has a nice warm garage, a cover and a battery conditioner i have only had time to take it out once this year.

I am also concerned that a rear facing Stage 1 seat won't fit in the back! As they are massive! So this could be a real problem. Can anyone with experience on this help me out with some sage advice?

I seem to be losing my grip on the Maserati.

Kids grow quickly so you'll need a different childseat soon and that problem will solve itself.

Wife not liking car is an utter pain - my first wife refused to go in my Dino. There's a big clue in that sentence...

Buy a Golf as the kids-car. Takes all the hammer that will come its way (kids are sick) and is completely class/image independent. Sorted.

That is so sad!
...and as to taking the GTS out only once is even sadder.
I sold my Elise for the Masers due to family, as just 2 seats did not work and restricted its usage, but no problem with the GTS surely?
Yes when we started with family you do gather 'new friends' in the same situation. Can't say what car you drove made any difference to be honest in our case.

Grim new, but Drew's right - the little buggers grow like stink so what you need today is wrong by summer. I agree on the Golf thing as well - classy and classless, if you see what I mean. Last resort, trade wife for new one.

Sad to hear that, I can help you out with a rearward facing child seat as I have a new one here. It's a strange thing as very few ladies dislike Maseratis.

Grim state of affairs Hoyin. I sympathise with you as none of the rest of the family particularly care for the QP, preferring the Ford SMax would you believe! However, keep the GTS, even if it's for high days and holidays. It gives you access, optiions, opportunities ad a great community that are otherwise unobtainable. Get the bland eurobox for the wife, gain browny points for "listening", stand firm on the GTS.

Wife trading is an expensive business and to be avoided at all costs.

Get an everyday family car that she will drive and won't be embarrassed to show to friends, Golfs are fine and there are some nice sportier variants for you to have some fun with. I am fortunate my wife is happy to drive any of my cars and even from the early days we carried the smallest child in the back of the SZ which has had specially designed belts for child seats fitted. The children are now 8, 9 & 11 and they all love going in the old cars to car shows, we often end up taking two cars like Gaydon last year where Sarah brought the Spyder with one of the girls and brought the SZ with the boy and the other girl.

Don't sell all your toys the kids will come to love them as they get older.

Not always, one of mine harps on about green credentials and ncap ratings! I find selective deafness ,(brought on by Larinis no doubt,) helps in this case.

Buy her what she wants, exactly , I did with this B class and Mrs wack loves it , it's white with white leather it feels really, er bright

I keep finding things on it, we've had it 6 months and I only just found out it does reverse parking on its own , not that even that will get her reverse parking

Happy wife, happy life

I don't understand the being embarrassed at owning a Maserati. I'd agree with the others though. My ex-wife was the reason I got rid of the RX-8. That was a mistake that I regretted.

I could understand if the Ghibli was a Gen 1 or 2 but the current car is just a three box saloon?!?!?

Given the mums love 4x4s despite their world destroying credentials...is that what she wants??? If so Levante time.

When do I pick the GTS up,
I will make sure it's good to go for Le Mans,
And the year is only 29 days old so once isn't bad, take it out today......

You probably need a Range Rover thing to fit in with the friends...

FIAT multipla, what a car that was!
Just got back from a driving trip to the Alps in a VW Caravelle.
Nice piece of kit, a posh one, all the toys, electric side doors etc, was impressed, for basically a van! (that has a list price of over 50K, so Ghibli money!)

I had an ex that made me sell an Alfa I had. I loved that car. In the end I couldn't forgive her so she had to go.

If you sell a car you love because of your missus, you'll end up resenting her because of it.
If you decide to sell it because it makes sense to, then that is completely different.

Mine didn't like the Caterham much - though she would indulge me by going in it on occasion, albeit under some sufferance. Teenage children happy with it though grossly impracticable and I got tired with it for that reason as well, having scratched the itch.
Wife is happy with the GS, although she won't let me take it to the family holiday home in S Spain as it "would send out the wrong message and put up the cost of building / maintenance works" which is true. The area isn't like anything like Marbella or Puerto Banus and I've not seen another Maserati or similar car down there, so if left in town it would probably get scratched by pert and not-so-pert bums as selfies were taken.

Never had a problem with the Mrs and my cars past and present fortunately. She isn't interested in actually driving them though, but that's okay.
Infact when I sold the Elise and nearly bought a Porsche 928, and then bought the Maser, she said the Maserati was more 'me'.
I generally find the females of friends are more emotional over the Maserati than the blokes to be honest, 'oh a Maserati'! If I was single, it would be good choice of car too!!
