G'day all.

My name is Tim, I'm from Queensland in Australia.

I never know what to say here, but It looks like a fantastic forum with lots of knowledge. One of the few forum's I have seen with people actually talking about Alfa 33's!!!

As you can see down the bottom, I have a 33 at the moment, I have had it since 06 when I bought it for $1000. It had a 16v engine shoved into a series one green clover leaf body.
I have done a bit to get it up and running and there is still a little to do. I have just bought a 166 as my work car and it's beautiful also!

I am looking at moving into something a bit more serious soon but I will mention that when I get to it!

Either way, g'day all and glad to be here!

Welcome Tim.

As said above many of us started in Alfa then find ourselves in Maseratis. I have always hankered after a 33 P4 and there is one I am tracking at the moment, its just a question of time and space.

There is also a dedicated 33 forum that I am sure you are aware of: http://www.alfa-pages.co.uk

All the best!

Welcome Tim,
You will find quite a few Australians here and lots of members with Alfas, I only had 5 before I acquired my 3200. You are in good company and we do understand the attraction of Italian cars.

Very sensible, Tim. You can see from my signature what we do with Alfa's chez Catman :) Mr's Catman's Sprint has the 1.7 but it's the carbed version. Oh that snarl on overrun!!!

How'd you go when you got into the 3200? That's my project I have on the cooker at the moment, Im waiting for the bank to get off their bottom and loan me their money so I can get one =)

Do you like the thing? I was on another forum recently who was run and populated by a few fools, who ruined it, but their comment was the 3200gt is the Commodore of the Maserati family.....
I dont know how you can compare a Holden Commodore with a Maserati but there you go.

That 1.7 ltr motor was ahead of it's time. If I can work out how to post a video I can upload the sound of mine. It has a csc full exhaust system but it's just getting the suspension freshened up at the moment as
said ^^^^ before. Never fails to put a stupid little grin on my face the little car. Always good fun to give a few people a fright too.

Also Conearo, I didn't know about that site, thanks for the link. It has a few good suggestions for making it a little more sporty. The issue I have, is I have the early not so sporty body, but I have just recently
been playing with it to sharpen it up. I have replaced the old original rubbers with Poly ones, just the ones that hold the body, not for suspension, if that makes any sense. Also had someone play with some
koni Yellow's that I have. Next is to get that Squadra chip in and I'm away!

Welcome aboard Tim. Natural progression from Alfa's to Maseratis; I bet most on here had one or two at some stage.

No not really.

Lancia Y10 Fire
Lancia Y10 Turbo
Alfa Romeo 33 Permament 4
Fiat Panda
Alfa Romeo 146Ti

All in the late 80's and 90's apart from the 146 which was one of the last ones made in 2000.
From then on company cars (BMW's mostly), Lotus Elise for 8 years as a toy before being sold for the Maserati. Jeep Wrangler for a few years in the late 90's too. Quite fancy another actually after this winter!

Mrs Catman had an S registered 145 Cloverleaf. Utterly lovely it was. Then some council employed van rear ended it in Epping and bent the floor :(

Thanks, I didn't know that alfa driver's usually progressed along to Maserati's.....It's a funny thing you know,
Many of my friends always give me **** about owning an alfa....say they are unreliable etc.....I have had
less break downs and cheaper running costs than most of my friends have in their new ***/American cars
funny fact really....

Also, I have tried other cars, owned a vw golf for four years, it was a good car, dont get me wrong, but
there is something engaging about alfa romeo's....I don't know what it is, but I've had quite a few now
and still can't find another marque that has the "magic" that alfa has.....That's why I like my MV so much,
It's a bike I have owned for 3 years or so, and I still catch myself checking it out in the window's.

...and Lancia's, several!

Are the new lancia's good? I'd love an old Delta

Thanks for the warm welcome.....as I said, I didn't know that it was a normal thing to do that.....

What were the 145's like to drive? We never got them or the 146's here in Aus, I always wanted to try one though

Hi Coxy and welcome to the Forum!

There is a growing band of us Oz-based forum members here and I'm one of them and am Brisbane-based too and the guys on this forum are nothing short of amazing with their willingness to help and their knowledge base. They are awesome!

As others have already mentioned, Alfa ownership does sometimes (often?) lead to Maser owenrship. I myself have had a selection of Alfa's over the years (156, GTV V6, GT, Brera and the wife still has the new Giulietta) before finally moving to the Trident just over 12 months ago now and I have never looked back.

I'm not sure exactly where you are based in Brisbane but all my cars have been looked after by ex-factory trained guys who went Independent about 6 years ago and now specialise in all Italian exotica with all the relevant (and necessary) SD testing kits and massive knowledge and experience - Automotion. www.automotion.com.au Last week they moved to much bigger premises in Enoggerra to allow for their growth but Chris, Cam and Daniel will never steer you wrong and will never rip you off. Tell them I sent you!!

If you do decide to take the plunge and get a Maser then keep us all informed here as the guys love to hear what's occurring over here - although they do sympathise with us over the plainly ridiculous prices we have to pay by comparison to theirs!!!

Good luck and welcome!

G'day Gary!

Yeah I've only heard good things about Automotion, I have spoken to them a few times about various things. The car I am looking at is due for a 90k service and the owner has been very upfront about it. I was looking to ship the car to Adelaide and drive it back via the snowies and a few other places, however the service in Adelaide I had been quoted about $4k to have done. Automotion said about $2.5k so it's pretty obvious to have it done locally, that way I can always go and see them.

What did you end up getting Maserati wise?

Im over the northside at Mitchelton, just up the road from Automotion so yeah not too hard for me to get down there. Where abouts are you?

Its very frustrating at the moment, I have just had the re-finance done and I am waiting to go to WA and get this thing, I am as excited as a dog with two....tails!

Tim
