I've been out and about today, and only really just got back on here, but I'm very surprised to see that my post from this morning has been deleted from this 'voting' thread. I didn't get to see any replies after my post before it was deleted, so have no idea the reason for this, or if it caused any problems.
If it did cause any hassle, I apologise as it wasn't my intention. It was a genuine observation/question based on the results of the vote and the way the forum didn't 'appear' to be backing the majority.

For what its worth, although I seemingly defended the post covid thread, I actually didn't agree with most of the 'opinions' in it, as I must be one of those that have failed the "human intelligence test", as it was rudely put. However, I was happy read other's opinions about the matter, and given the chance may have shared mine.

Anyway, saying all that, however the powers that be decide to police it, I'll remain part of it. I enjoy ALL the content on here.

I think you should all
Kiss and make up and buy my bargain Gransport instead of whacking each other with handbags
Tough call for a Maserati forum.

and me too, when founder members hang up their forum boots, something is clearly wrong so it will be sorted
When I posted I was unaware that Peter had left. It’s a great shame and hopefully he will reconsider and come back.

I still think we need to talk about things other than Maserati to make it worthwhile logging on. Hopefully people will be able to resist looking into the dark corners they perhaps don’t like as the best way of policing is self regulation. If mods get too heavy then lots of people will just quietly drift away leaving a core echo chamber of friends who, surprisingly seem to agree with each other.

Well we regularly see post about, plasterers, apples, pens and all sorts of off topic stuff which is fine. Regarding contentious issues, we do not want them.

If you go and have a look at the other major Italian car forums it’s totally locked out so SM has always been very liberal in allowing it and up until recent members knew where the line was. Now a few seem to forget that line and now we are stepping in.

If you would like to start a thread and you are not sure of the topic then you are always free to ssk

@conaero

If you want to debate in contentious issues then I am sure there are places on the net for you so go do it there.

Your forum, your call. I’m not particularly interested in the contentious stuff but the line where it starts is different for different people and if you get too restrictive then more people may drift away than you expect. Anyway there are lots of long established members including mods who post on a whole variety of topics including the hot stuff.

There is a high chance that it will become a chat room for 40 or so mates but I suspect you know that already. Best of luck with it.

I try and stay out of these things but surely there are better places to discuss highly emotive, contentious, serious and negative issues other than a Maserati forum. Off topic is great place to raise light hearted funny topics, general advice or other non Maserati topics, but surely other social media is more suited to solving deeply serious political conspiracy theories for example. We’re all different of course but personally I come here to escape the depressing and corrupt media, learn about car stuff, get help, give help and have a bit of fun with people who love a cool car brand called Maserati. Others are clearly looking for something far more deep and meaningful which seems to be causing the recent heat.

I'll continue to beat the drum that it's got to be more about the how than the what. Yes, I agree that some topics aren't even fit for debate, of any kind...the earth is, in fact, round. But if people can be respectful; not call names; apologize when a comment gives offense, and similar, I think it goes a long way. I wonder how some folks make their way through life with a total lack of self-awareness...but it's apparently done all the time. You can even be President of the United States!

And it seems like it would be easier to police actual conduct than it would be topics of conversation. I may be naive, but I bet I could pick 40 people on this forum and an incredibly contentious topic...and those 40 could conduct themselves in an appropriate manner while debating the matter, so long as the ground rules were laid out in advance.

Or maybe not!

You were spot on, on the other thread...folks can rationalize just about anything.

*All* folks. It's a pretty much inherent human trait. It only becomes problematic when we think we are not subject to the same drivers. We may not *respond* the same to those drivers, but that's a different thing.

And then we have generalisations :)

Of course. You and I are patently excluded! ;)
