I know I supplied them to a few people on here as a part of a group buy a few months back, I know Simon has them.

Anyway, now need pads and would like to know what the owners impressions of them are, feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Thanks in advance.

Has anybody had any experience of red or yellow stuff brake pads on 4200s. They seem to be plentiful on evilbay and they work well on my BM. Any thoughts?

Got greengrippers last week, just fitted to the front with refurb calipers. Let you know once they have been run in.

Thanks to all who made the connection with Belfast Brakes, and the guys themselves of course.

If anyone would share some comments of what's their performance vs the OEM pads, it would be very useful to me, as i'm looking to get a set soon.Any thoughts about carbon/kevlar, or low dust, or street/track pads from FD, are welcome mates!

Nikos, I have been running the FD fast road pads all round on my QP for about a year now...would say there is not a huge difference in performance between these and OEM,
price is cheaper on the FD ones, brake dust on the wheels is about the same...I do not get any squeking or screeching (never did on OEM either), FD pads do not have the electronic pad low sensor wiring,
just a metal screecher for when they get too low...if the pads are checked regularly, this should not pose a problem.

When the group buy was running, i bought a set of high performance pads, to install them when needed.I can feel now, while braking, some vibration on my foot, which means i need new rotors, too.So, the question is, is it worth testing new rotors from FD? With pads, it would be the best if i had bought the carbon/kevlar, but they ain't available at the time.
Your thoughts much appreciated.

I would not use the new pads on used disk Nikos if I thought the disks needed replacing soon, as I believe it is not wise to put used pads on new disks.
How do the FD disk prices compare? and one other thought, what car do you have, maybe the 550 disks could be an option?

edit - if the pads you have are new and still boxed, it may be worth having a chat with Jeff @ FD...he may do a swap/deal on the kevlar ones.

Enzo, of course i wouldn't use new discs with old pads, maybe my previous reply was not that clear.I have thought to call Jeff, but, the shipping cost would be huge, so not worth.Maybe i could sell them via the forum, if anyone was interested, BUT is the difference of the carbon/kevlar vs track/race that huge? FD discs i will get for sure.
Mine is a 4200 of 2003, do the 550's fit?

Hi Nikos, yes 550 Maranello discs fit 3200, 4200 and Gransport.

I have no experience of different types of pads/discs....but I think to make a true and huge difference you'd need a full brake/caliper discs up-grade....some one correct me.....;)

Are they exactly the same(same code?) or do they fit the same? What would you suggest?Try the 550 or search for the FD?I don't feel like giving some thousands of $ this time. The 4200 has good brakes(not the best), but they need to give me the feeling of stopping. My everyday car has the brakes as seen on my avatar.Feeling is amazing. This is what i need.
Thanks for the link, it has helped me a lot!

Hi Nikos, If you want improved braking, then you need to be looking at big brake kits. FD do them, as do others, but stitch up your back pocket, 'cos you won't be putting your wallet in it for some time. If you want to just renew your brakes, then go for the Brembo 550 disks and and pads of your choosing. The coding won't be the same as the OEM 4200, but I run them on my '04 4200 (as do others) and they're just fine. Like Parisien, I run them with green gripper pads. If renewal is all you need, then why shell out many hundreds of your hard earned when perfectly fine disks can be had at a fraction of the price. A disk is a robust, but simple piece of engineering and if these can stop a 5.5 litre V12 with nearly 500 horses, then they can stop a 4200.

A relatively inexpensive braking improvement would be to replace the brake hoses with solid / braided pipes. Not a massive difference, but a bit surer.

Thanks Parisien and Emtee, i have not understood yet, the 550 discs are the same as the oem 4200?I understand they are the same in dimensions, the improtant question is, do the 550 discs give an advantage over the oem 4200, or do you choose them only because they are lower in price?Where can i find the brembos(550)?

Hi Nikos, you won't see any braking improvement using the Brembo 550 disks compared to the 4200 OEM disks.

I haven't any experience of the FD pads, so can't say what improvement there might be, but generally speaking the things that FD sell have a good reputation, albeit at a cost.

I know, Em, i have springs and dbw, Jeff does a good job, but he's much more expensive, comparing to what's on the aftermarket.
Thanks!

Heres the discs and pad info......on this post on the alternative parts thread.....

Nikos, isn't there a link to one of the suppliers of the 550 discs on the above thead?

This is a Ferrari OEM disc, fits the mentioned model, just so happens to be EXACTLY the same dimensions of the 3200/4200/GS discs.

Plus have more holes and countersunk at that, helps to get rid of dust better, plus dissipate some heat too......I'd imagine....and if you combine with low dust Green Grippers...better again.

Cost for fronts and rears around £380 from the 550 suppliers versus £943 incl from Eurospares.

So overall saving £563, plus a huge saving with £75 GG pads for both sets.....in summary - slightly better performance...slightly better feel too......NB the word slightly....:)
