After years of looking I have finally got my chequebook out and bought one.

I am not new to Italian cars over the last 20 years or so I have probably had 30 plus Alfa Romeos, various models have come and gone and three seem to have stuck around.

Alfa Romeo SZ - From launch I wanted one and in 2003 I picked up a 9,000 mile original UK car. I beleive in cars being used so she has now covered 54,000 miles and can often be seen on track days both here and in Europe

Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 - This is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Externally a relatively sedate 155 4 door saloon but this one has a trick or two. The Q4 used Lancia's Delta Integrale engine & running gear so underneath this 155 is the familiar 2.0 litre turbo and 4WD system that won so many international rallies. That's not all we have added a few more tweaks, bigger turbo, custom exhaust, custom map, coilovers etc, etc so this little saloon packs close to 300BHP which makes things interesting.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta - This is the stragne one, not to everyones taste but I love the classic designed with a ruler look. With a wonderfully balanced rear wheel drive chassis and lovely revvy 1.8 4 pot this is driving in the old style. Handling, balance and poise rather than brute force, when you get it right you smile from ear to ear.

Quattroporte IV - Originally I was looking for a 3200 GT but little business adventure I have planned needed a performance 4 door saloon, it was then that my love of ruler design and turbo powerplants pointed me down the QP route. Hence the latest addition a QP IV 3.2 Evo with 6 speed manual.

So I guess a steep learning curve is in order, there are a few issues mainly electrics but I love the performance, the handling has surprised me and the noise - oh the noise.

lovely portfolio of Italian metal you have there! I love the SZ, such a lovely styled car. I see one almost every day in the back streets of Mayfair, it has diplomat number plates on it and just looks so unloved and used as a town runaround. The amount of times I've wanted to leave a note on the windscreen asking to buy it!

Love them all.
The SZ, I like marmite!
The 155 Q4 very rare car. Can remember Jeremy Clarkson doing a road test on Top Gear, driving through a drive through in reverse, being LHD of course.

Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like toys.

SZ's are great cars, build quality can be a bit suspect, panel gaps vary. Parts are near impossible to find unless you know where to look, normally Holland. MY car was originally a Alfa Main Board Directors car hence why we think the panel gap is next to perfect. The car spent alot of it's early life in the Fiat museum in Turin as Alfa didn't own an SZ so they use to borrow this one. In fact Fiat took it to Concourso Italiano in the US and there are pictures on the web of it at Pebble Beach.

They drive really well, not that powerful 210BHP but corner as if they are on rails, very little understeer unless you push really ******* the track. This one is a keeper as I can't see me ever selling it.

Welcome Zag that's a stunning motor mate.

How about dropping in the 3.2GTA lump, keeping the original engine of course so as to not devalue it, that will put some fire in its belly, enjoy and would love to see her, can you make Italian night at Ace Cafe London sometime?

The SZ is not about outright power it is about balance and finess. There is a supercharged 24V SZ but although awesomely quick it loses most of the joy.

Great collection Zagatoes30. You seem to like your straight lines :D Best of luck with the QPIV. Such an understated Trident, but with that lovely surprise waiting under the bonnet.

I am known for buying weird and unusual cars but the QP is in a different league - totally bonkers and I love it :)

When I lived in London there was always a red SZ parked just off Park Lane. Used to love driving past it. Such an unusual shape.
