So how do you know if you have the uprated F1 pump or the older one. Didn't want to get the wrong relay. Mines a 2005MY if that helps.

If you are buying a relay, just buy the latter improved relay for longer life.
What is a little confusing on Maserati Life is the pictures of the relay they show are only 4 blades, mines 5 and so is the uprated relay. Plus if you look at my picture you can see 5 wires to the base of the relay.
Brendan as yours is a late model, can you take a picture like mine so we can see if they changed anything, 4 or 5 wires like my early 2002?

Looks same as mine, same wire colours, same number of wires to the relay base.
Only difference is that your relay is on the left of the fuses, mine is on on right of the fuses.
So it appears no change from 2002 to 2005 with regard to vehicle wiring, so the upgraded BMW 5 pin relay should be a straight swop to the one fitted at the factory.

Has anyone used the BMW relay to confirm that it works? Or, just taken it from the parts numbers that it will?

Thanks

I fitted one today and it works fine. I'll be keeping the old one in the car just on case it stops working fine. BTW, on the spyder, it's mounted a bit further to the rear and it is seconds of a job to change. I'll let you know if it goes phut.

Sounds like having a spare should standard. Found something that will fit in the glovebox!

Removing the relay was a nightmare and impossible for me, I even put on a rubber high-grip glove (for holding glass) and still could not get it to budge.

After a bit of head scratching, I found that I was able to remove just the top part of the boot lining by gently pulling it out. This gave me enough angle on the bolts that hold the peice of metal onto the bodywork to which the relay is attached. Once those bolts are removed you can get the relay into a position where you can easily remove it.

Hopefully the pictures will work.

Update: New pump (old style) fitted and also used the new BMW relay. All working happily together.

Probably better because Tyco understand Italian Electrics and build accordingly.
Whereas for the Germans ! !

Well maybe
