Extended warranty old car

Evening all, I'm considering a 2015 quattroporte which will blow all of my savings (mid life crisis) and was thinking of taking out some warranty cover as my work salary will not accommodate a big bill if something horrible goes wrong. Ive been looking but seems the car is too old and no one wants to give quote.
Was wondering if the club had any thoughts or suggestions on the matter.

My thoughts are that I congratulate you on deciding to have a midlife crisis!

These cars are amazing, and although you might have a few hiccups, they are quite fantastic objects to own.

We don’t have too many QPVIs on here, but no one has reported major issues to my knowledge. Crack on! :D

Admiral and Aviva are good for multicar policies. LV won't insure a Maserati for some reason. But I'm with AIB as a multicar policy too.

I’d say get the car, but don’t get a Warrantywise warranty. Hopeless. They WILL do everything they can to never pay out if you need to use it.

This is the clearly default position. I have never got an aftermarket warranty before due to the poor reputation of aftermarket warranties.
When I bought my car it had balance remaining on a Warrantywise warranty provided by Maserati main dealer Charles hurst in Belfast. I was offered a top level extension on the same terms, no named parts, ALL mech and elec item covered. I decided to give it a go, and I believe Warrantywise are one of the better providers.

I had no need to use it for nearly 2 years but needed a couple of items towards the end of the cover, not major, both items together of less value than I paid for the cover.

They very reluctantly paid out for one item (but only as ‘goodwill’) after much discussion with Marios at Autoshield but refused to pay out for a couple of failed parking sensors. The reason? They claimed they were ‘worn out parts’. How the @@@@ does a sensor ‘wear out’. It’s a black and white case of an electrical failure, and specifically covered in the policy document.
However, it appears EVERYTHING covered in the policy can be overruled if they think it has ‘worn out’ ….. in their opinion.

Avoid. This applies to all aftermarket warranties. There is a reason I’ve never had one before and Warrantywise just proved to me why I’d never had one before.

Hows that for a rant!

And I'd have to say, not IME. I made a packet from WW with my GT. In fact they quoted me for another year's cover for less that the cheque from them that was sitting on my kitchen cabinet.....

Maybe I got a rouge employee dealing with my case who’d been previously signed off too many claims, who knows.

All I know is, and I told them as much, I will tell anyone I ever get into conversation with about secondhand cars to never use their product, and also emplore them to pass on the same information to anyone they may come across considering a warranty too.
In my experience of Warrantywise, never give them a penny, leave the money in your account, and put it towards any repairs you may need.

From the Fezza FF Thread I believe that warrantywise will not pay out on anything higher than 5k. Or am I mistaken?

I believe mine, in theory, paid out up to the value paid for the car by the previous owner, 38k. Maybe it was a 5k individual claim up to a max of 38k, can’t remember, but it sounded a good policy…..
The reality is they won’t even pay out for failed parking sensors specifically covered because they were ‘worn out’.

Parking sensors do wear out, they are transducers after all. They change electrical energy into ultrasonic audio and back again. Also anything with high current tend to degrade too due to the heat cycles. That's why modern low current electronics are far more reliable than older higher current electrics. Filament lamps versus LED for example.

I have had two after market warranties, the second with Warrantywise and they did everything to not pay out, they also abide by there assessors report / opinion who nearly always deem a part to be worn out rather than specialists which is frustrating.

Warranty Direct on the other hand were helpful and quick to agree work and cover costs, over £16k paid out on a £1200 24 month warranty on a Range Rover

But as Chris says he had a totally different experience.

Looking up recommendations for aftermarket warranties neither of these are in the top 10, maybe that says something

Well, by default, as the product they sell is for used cars they can pull out their ‘worn out parts’ for literally everything on the car they claim to cover in reality.

‘I know it says we cover that sir, but unfortunately we believe it is ‘worn out’, so it isn’t actually covered’

‘But my car is second hand, there are no ‘new’ parts on it. You’re buisness is to cover 2nd hand cars. So are you claiming everything can be classed as worn out at your whim just because it is not new?’

‘Exactly, we love our ‘worn out parts’ clause. It means we can choose to pay out nothing if we like even for the most ridiculous reason’

Wow.....there alot of opinions on this.
In the end I decided against it. Chat with maserati dealer would offer me an extended one year warranty, which I like as that will fall into its next service, should there be something untoward, I'm hoping gentlemanly conduct by main dealer
