Exhaust tail pipes

Exhaust tail pipes. This is going to cause uproar:hang: Oh excuse the pun, hehehe
Well, I have a tuning bachground, and a few years back, I worked for a company, that actually tested Tuning parts. I can tell you, All the idiots who spent thousands on bolt-on parts, only to find their souped up motor actually made less power, then standard, For everyone I saw, i would be a rich man now, if i took a £ from everyone of them!
Anyway, was digressing away from the tread title. We used to test exhaust, using a Superflow 350. and the rear boxes with twin outlets, never ever came near the power flow, the single outlet made. Simple reason, the gas air is slowed down, at the split, and then exits from 2 pipes.
So my point is this, having 4 oulets on the Maser, is only really for show. For power, only one outlet per side. You will see race Ferraris, lose all the outlets, and have nice single ones, for power/torque. But then, the Maser would not look right, or would it with just 2 meaty exhausts? Would also like tp compare sounds, with the Larini vs custom single pipes. Prob sound more American burble and Thunder, i would guess.
Only real way to compare, is a car on a Rolling Road, with first, OE exhaust, then Larini, then Custom.

I am sure you are right, would have to be a large oval though to fit the standard rear bumper.
However with the squashed restriction at the front, maybe not, unless that is replaced first, then when that is replaced its replaced with two twin pipes.....!

End of the day, an engine is an engine. Just a glorified pump. Not familiar with the Maser set-up. Is it a 4-into-1, or 4-into- 2, each side?

Larini go 4 into 2 into 1 each side. Surely a single outlet with a smallish bore would accelerate the gas which would increase the pitch and cause more shear which would give more of a crackle. Is this how Ferrari tune the exhaust?

The muffling inside the back boxes is much more of a restriction than the twin pipes sticking out the back.

BTW, the rear pipes supplied by Autoshield may not fall foul of this. I checked the cross sectional area of the pipe just before the split (there is no box) and the cross sectional area of each pipe after the split and they are exactly the same, ie the two outlet pipes equal the main exhaust pipe.

What muffling? There's none in mine!

Haha, sorry Ben........inside the standard back boxes. :D

I reckon you're next exhaust mod will be to just have a pipe sticking out the side of the car behind each front wheel. Flames spitting at pedestrians ankles.

I'd be interested to know if the GT-S boxes would fit on a GS :)

I think they're too large to fit in the bumper (speaking of pre facelift bumper, which is smaller than GS).

But i feel that boxes are designed for the needs of a specific car...

Would love to have them on my coupe though...

I reckon the exits might fit, but not sure of the shape of the back box/valves etc. I wonder if they'd sound as good as the 4.7 GT-S MC shift :)

Come one, someone has to try it? Matt, another mod for your pearl white GS with boomerangs and a 4.7.....oval pipes.

Just a quick query Benny - what do ya think of the Autoshield straight through back box? Mines getting one fitted early next week by Marios and the guys - cant wait to get her back! Is it a quad or twin pipe after the change? Thoughts on engine note etc with the change? Louder/Quieter etc? Probably questions I should've asked Marios - but I trust their judgement inherently and am equally excited about the result; it's definitely going to sound significantly better than the standard that I managed to destroy a couple of weeks back! Apologies for wandering off the topic.... :)

If its a 4-into-2-into-1, then at back, 1-into2, then its losing power. Cosmetic only. The pipe should end as one pipe per side, for power. And i bet it will sound better too. Rear box removed? Are the rear boxes small?

Andy.
