Is it not normal to vibrate a little at idle?

My 4.7 GTS doesn't shudder or run rough but there is a clear vibration in the interior at idle. The RPM moves ever so slightly up and down but it was never the smoothest or most refined engine in the world.
Not sure about that, My 4.7 is super smooth at idle.

Theres been a development. Today I was out in the car again all fine but as soon as I got back and put the car into reverse the engine started sound rough and shuddering again. Plugged in the reader again and now have a Pending error code - P1013 (photo attached). No lights on the dash though
P1013 Relates to the right bank.

If it keeps coming back and not just a random one off your likely causes are crank sensor, camshaft sensor or solenoid. Could just be a loose or broken wire to the solenoid.

There are other reasons that a P1013 can be reported but worth checking for loose wires on the right bank.

If it was left bank it would be P1015

They are not the smoothest engines, no, but what's being described here sounds rather worse.

Would this resolve the VVT issue ref the 'fails' the ECU reader picked up? Is there a method to test the ignition coils myself?

Thanks
On my reader it identified which cylinder was misfiring so on consultation with a Maserati Specialist garage, they said its either the ignition coil, spark plug or fuel injector. But because ignitor coil failures are quite common (especially for cars which had done 40-50k miles,) they suggested to try a new ignitor coil first. This is what I did and it worked first time. The spark plugs and coils are buried deep into the engine block so they experience very high temperatures which makes the electronics eventually breakdown. So if one ignitor coil has failed, then the rest could fail soon after. So always best to carry a spare one just in case. I then cleared the fault codes using my reader. Problem sorted.
If you are not sure which cylinder could be the problem, you could progressively test each cylinder by swapping out the ignitor coil with a new one, and see if it fixes the problem. Also worth checking your spark plugs to. The spark plug in the cylinder which was misfiring was wet with unburnt fuel at the sparking end. So I knew it was getting fuel so signalling the fault was most likely the ignitor coil. I would give it a try and see if it works. Hope this helps.

When the fault occurred on my 4.7S, the engine struggled to respond to any acceleration, corresponding with misfiring. It ran very 'rough'. I can't recall what the fault codes were which came up ( it was 2 years ago now), but changing out the faulty ignitor coil enabled me to fix this particular problem and clear all of the codes with my reader. I always carried a spare ignitor coil with me after that.

Oh dear. What might it be?

It's due a service in the next few weeks so I'll get them to investigate, but some pointers from the experienced members on here would be great.

Mine is same as you describe, I can certain feel the engine in the cabin. Always been like that since I've had it. Mine is going in next week to get sorted so I'll let you know what they say

My QP 4.2 doesn't vibrate on idle cold or hot, sometimes the rev counter wobbles a bit not can't sense it in the cabin.

On day one of ownership I had two coils fail, 500 yards from home, and not only that, one of them melted and stunk the cabin out with acrid smoke. Replaced under warranty but still, what a welcome!!

my 4.2 had the injector fault - which was ^^ a specific code and the CEL.
google lead to US forum which would lead me to call the experts. Especially if only one bank is affected.

As per service manual:

RH BANK INTAKE CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT CORRELATION (ABOVE THRESHOLD) (P1013)

LH BANK INTAKE CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT CORRELATION (ABOVE THRESHOLD) (P1015)"

Thank you for all the advice. It's going into Autosheild next week. Mario suspects it's nothing major and just a failed cam solinode.

Marios will soon sort it. This was my car with him a few weeks ago.
