By contrast heating oil is now £1.70 a litre. Over the past 18 years the highest I’ve paid is 75ppl and the average 38ppl. Supplier has guaranteed a delivery in the next two weeks but not the price. Belt off, trousers down. Still, could be worse, it could be October. Meh.

Well I am with Shell Energy. They keep telling me that all my energy is renewable, 100%

So imagine my surprise when I get a letter saying that at the end of my contract on 31 March my bill will go up £800... fancy that

I didnt realise the wind and solar energy had gone up so much as well as gas!

Would that be for running a constituency office Phil - rather like using claiming back expenses off your tax bill if you run a business?

Bearing in mind they are employed by the government they can certainly claim back a lot more than most small businesses can I would say.

This afternoon I had to pay £1.89 per litre for E5 at my local garage. But, even at that price trips in my Jag - which’ll do 25 mpg on a run - are still cheaper than taking the train, particularly when there’s more than one person travelling.

Christine looked at travelling down from Middlesbrough to Romford and also to Buxton as an alternative to driving, absolutely ridiculous prices on trains. Even flying and Ubers was considerably cheaper.

It's a bizarre world these days , can you imagine still buying gas from Hitler while he's shelling Poland killing civilians by the thousand

You might be surprised that Germany did continue trading internationally after invading Poland. Sweden for instance continued selling minerals and even the US continued some trade until Pearl Harbor. Some aspects of the Holocaust were known to European and US governments, including the UK, but that didn’t halt trade either. Some countries e.g. the Swiss, continues trading with both sides right through the war.

We flew to Aberdeen to buy a car because it was less than an hour and under £100 for both of us , the train took as long as driving and cost a lot more ,£300 rings a bell
