Energy crisis

We’ve had an electric induction hob with ovens cooker for the past 10+ years, a Range Master 110 Classic Cranberry. Very good cooker and the multi hob plate is easy to clean, has the traditional knob controls. Definitely agree about it being efficient, just a pain there is a lot less choice in pans though and more expensive.

Not cheap at sub £3k but has stood the test of time, only had to change the oven elements which are cheap sundry items and a door seal - but does get used a lot in our household….

Similar to what Mrs Z wants and she is considering solar panels on the garage roof so I have that down as a pro for the garage

I don't have PV, but my sister in law has.
My understanding is that the PV measures the amount of energy generated which pays the FIT.
After this measurement it is a case of use it or loose it!
The electricity company can't measure whether this energy generated is used by the property after the Fit meter (emersion heater for example), or goes back into the grid.
My sister in laws system does just this, heats up hot water, for free, and it does not effect her FIT.
It makes sense if you think about it.
The FIT meter has to be straight after the solar panels.
If you then use it after the meter, you aren't pulling any energy from the grid, so you aren't charged by your normal electricity meter.

That’s about £1.67 a litre. It’s nearly that at my local garage that does E5 but it was £1.51 for E10 at Sainsbury's this morning … I wonder if the French government rips off as much as the UK does(?)
159.9ppl yesterday morning in Pershore. 172.9ppl by the afternoon! (And the government must be getting quite a tax revenue)

Just had the letter from Shell, my default supplier after Green went bust - my DD will INCREASE by £200 a Month! From April that is c£5k a year for dual fuel
I’ve told the (adult) children still at home to buy jumpers this year as heating will not be on and hot water will be limited to 1 x 5min shower per day. This summer I will cut down another tree and chop for logs and cut the plug off the tumble dryer.
I noticed petrol rose by 15pence a litre in 4 days from the local garage - its £1.65 today
Just where will Europe replace its 40% reliance on Russian gas?
I feel a very dark and cold winter approaches

There are certain circumstances where something like this will save money, just not in this case. If you don’t have a FiT, then it pays you to use every watt you can generate.
There's FiT and then there's FiT.

My 2012 installed system is paid per kWh to generate electricity and again when I export 50% of that energy to the national grid.

New systems (post 2029) just get the export rate, which is pittance. My apple analogy above is for those systems that get both the generation and export rate.

As for the price of Oil and gas, it'll become very cheap again when Putin succumbs to a polonium shot in his nescafe.

Just been notified that my energy bills are going up by roughly £1k a year, nearly doubling. That's from April.

No real surprise I guess

Government here reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by 0.20 & 0.15c per litre respectively from midnight tonight, nice to see them trying to help out quickly
There’s nothing like that happening here in the UK, just rampant inflation set to overflow Treasury coffers with fuel duty and VAT! Diesel will be hit worse as we cut the near 20% of our supply that comes in from Russia.

Same situation as me... and similar numbers, too. You're a bit higher but I'm sure mine's got a bit further to go yet. Like you, energy consumption is being closely monitored. Fall asleep in the shower and you'll find there's no hot water when you want one tomorrow.

How can anyone fall asleep in a shower?

The excise duty reduction is until August at the earliest even more socially aware policies from the government

I suspect that fracking will suddenly become ok in the short term(?)! In the medium term, on shore wind seems like a huge missed opportunity in this country. Here, on the Isle of Wight, we have a very successful wind turbine business yet there isn't a single wind turbine on the Island. Applications have been obstructed and overturned through local Planning. (This is also true for fracking and oil exploration). It's suddenly looking like too much nimbyism hasn't done us any favours(?)!

My youngest, apparently. When the water runs cold he wakes up and gets out. It's the only explanation.

I've explained the shock he'll have when he gets his own place and starts receiving something called 'bills'.

So went upstairs the other day, heard the shower running
10 minutes later walked past bathroom again -still running - noticed light was not on (switch on outside and PIR operated ‘mood lighting’ in bathroom, brief panic ‘Sh1t its flooding’ opened door…..,
The ‘Live In Boyfriend’ is having a Tom Tit! - couldn’t really see as room full of steam!
FFS!

“ oh I was waiting for it to run hot”
“ WHAT! For Fooking 10 Fooking Minutes! The hot water cylinder is in the same Fooking Room!”

I am going to give one of these a try (The cheaper Solic 200 does the same and is. £200) as after a bit more research, as you mentioned for your sister… this box of trickery adjusts / matches the flow of energy going back to the grid. You are absolutely right it’s just like on my system, the energy you produce is free to use and you get paid for it too…. Use it or lose it. So hopefully does what it says on the tin, I can use a multi meter to measure the current being directed to the element, it should match what is going back to the grid rather than switching on the full blown 3kw element(s)…. Worst case if it doesn’t work, I can send it back… fingers crossed it works helps save a bit of energy
