So the wrap was covering knackered paint then. Bummer if someone decides to pull it off.

Just to recap then, HX08GJO was sold by Morris Leslie for £11,704 incl premium back in March 2021. It appeared to be a dark grey paint (?) with lots of lacquer peel, perhaps from a wrap having been unsympathetically removed.

It was subsequently given a matt wrap and passed through West Coast Motors of West Kilbride for just under £20k in October 2021.

The car had a rotten subframe (picked up on previous advisories but not the most recent MOT on 5 October 2021 possibly carried out by WCM themselves) and a loose headlight unit that was not noted either (maybe damaged during the application of the matt wrap since March 2021).

Car is currently not appearing on MOT check websites under the original plate.

The car apparently was orignally owned by Soho Wealth and was black paint, so this car has a checkered past exterior wise.

The car had a PPI and in light of the issues, the most recent owner, Mr Spoon of this parish, negotiated a £2,500 reimbursement from WCM. I am not aware of any engine work that needs doing.

It is understood he intends to keep it and resolve the issues with the car.

I watched the auction when this car went through in March 2021.

As a project car at under £12k this perhaps made sense. You would have ended up with a £20k at least car but could have the work done to your spec including specifying the wrap and resolving the subrframe issues.

At nearer £17k with the reimbursement this was not such a good buy but hopefully another car will be saved.

Mr Spoon has left the forum (his signature) and started deleting some of his posts, particularly those pertaining to the history and condition of the car.

It will take a new wrap for this car not to be instantly recognised if offered online.

Strange as I thought the door shuts were blue.

Thanks for the detailed summary of the history.
Let’s hope that if it is listed for sale again, issues will have been correctly addressed or honestly described.

just a few things:

the car is blue underneath, so get your facts straight.

Scaf - wtf are you and others implying?

I've simply deleted my posts because i do not want you lot to benefit from what I learn and how to tackle buying something like this without spending mega bucks for these precious specialists you're all so far up their arses that you are ticking their tonsils.

I have a private plate on my car, but rest assured for you leaches, HX08GJO will go back on the car if and when I ever sell it and I'll be sure to point them your way for your dick head opinions.

Quite simple, for anyone new, if you don't fit in the old man, look down your nose at others category, find an alternative place to spend your online time.

ps - very convenient you find this post afterwards, would have been a very good post to point me to in the beginning.

you can stick my spoon up your ****.

Welcome back.

I simply did a google search on the registration and the results were this forum (as a font of good sound Maserati knowledge) and the original auction. We often comment on cars that are on sale, particular those that are unknown to the forum. Some members often post the registration and a few pictures for future reference. We cannot be held responsible for your lack of research. (Caveat Emptor!)

Seriously, I wish you good luck with the restoration of your GT and hope it doesn't hurt the wallet too much. Whether you choose to take our advice or not is entirely up to you.

And lastly, if I have been offensive to you, I sincerely apologise. We (and I), do mean well and offer free advice in the hope of saving you money. The more money saved equals more available funds to enjoy your GT.

Good Luck

You really are a small minded petty individual. It needed saying.

I think, fun as it has been, now is time to let the spoon lie.

He came, he disagreed, he knew better and now he has left, maybe.

Let’s move on and stop poking the sore and get back to helping each other enjoy our cars, like usual.

That's my fault. I have been otherwise engaged and not visiting the forum often. If I had, I would have pointed you to my post about the car when it passed through Morris Leslie in March 2021. I was tempted at the time as the GT is a hugely desirable car, and I am sorry to see it has not worked out for you.

I bought my 4200 sight unseen at auction but I was able to rely on the help of forum members who were able to make me aware of known issues with my car so I could make an informed decision.

In my absence you appear to have overloaded the forum with your observations. The specialists you appear so much to despise include at least two in Marios and Voicey who do endeavour to keep costs down for the cash limited owner, but a replacement subframe will always be a big ticket item. I don't think you can criticise them for that.

Also these specialist have to invest in specialist tools and diagnostics, or are throttled by the Maserati tax or unavailability of spare parts. That's Maserati's fault not theirs, and I hope the long promised Classiche-style programme will address this in the future.

Alternatively, @FIFTY , @davidhowson and @philw696 are all examples of people who have persevered and taken the less well trodden route of doing it themselves rather than relying on the tonsil tickled types. There was also someone who did a tremendous job of a Bianco Fuji import, but it's not for everyone.

In hindsight, if I was in your position I would have rejected the car when the extent of the issues became apparent.

Re the exterior colour, the car looked dark grey in the Morris Leslie video I posted, but it was hard to tell. The photo you posted that you got from Soho Wealth that was supposedly the car looked like black paint. Thank you for clarifying it is in fact blue paint, though I doubt it will ever be revealed as such to the world again.

I hope the car survives and is repaired to a decent standard and you get to enjoy it.

My post speaks for itself.
Afterall, if the car had been honestly described as you were buying it, you would have been able to negotiate the discount at the time and not retrospectively.
It also implies that faults that may have existed may well have been fixed before it goes on sale, which if you took a slightly less defensive and offensive attitude, you may have seen it as a neutral “almost” positive comment.
One would have to try hard to take offence at the comment, but then you do exactly that.
I have pressed the ignore button again now that you are back.

If someone sees something like this available again, but more so a GS then let me know…I quite fancy a new track day project…
I was thinking the same thing, but I have a few shortcomings...lack of car, lack of funds, lack of space to carry out such work, lack of welding tools, lack of talent welding, lack of time...other than that, I'm good to go...
