As a worried customer called me yesterday with the same question, on the fuel cap or lid it says ok for E5 and E10 according to him.

Doing most of my miles on the continent in all the Maseratis I’ve had, I’ve used E10 (had no choice) for decades without issue.

Just imagine how fast you'd have been going if you'd been using petrol with a higher petrol content.

In Europe, the octane rating on the pump is simply the RON figure. America, by contrast, uses the average of the RON and the MON figures, called the AKI (anti-knock index). Thus, 97 octane “super unleaded” in Britain is roughly equivalent to 91 octane premium in the United States.

My manual says dont use less than a octane or RON of 95?

I think you may be confused and therefore worrying too much. E10 is still 95 RON it just has up to 10% ethanol added to reduce emissions.

But maybe you get that and I'm missing your point

I use shell super anyway.
99 octane, and that is still going to be E5.
Costs me £115 to fill up though…..

I genuinely thought this was a joke, as it’s in the humour section. Anyway, you can’t buy 90 octane here, so your fears are unfounded. And next to the bit in your manual about 95 RON, it says that E10 won’t do any damage, it’s in red.

What get me is in September there suddenly overnight going to call normal E5 petrol as we know it now in Super and charge 20p a litre extra... this then effects low income families that have no choice but the run older cars.. its all total boll*x!
